Hurricane Beryl Makes Landfall in Texas as a Category 1 Storm
Hurricane Beryl made landfall on the central Texas coastline before dawn on Monday, bringing dangerous storm surge and whipping winds to millions of people in the state. Beryl was a Category 1 storm when it came ashore at just before 4 a.m. local time, meaning it had sustained winds of at least 74 miles per hour. The storm made landfall in Matagorda, Texas, a city between Galveston and Corpus Christi. The storm was expected to carry enough rain to cause significant flooding in the Houston area and beyond.
