‘Deadliest Catch’ boats bring Bering Sea whiskey to Seattle
“We just put it right up in the bow and let the boat do the rest of the work,” said Captain Josh Harris of the F/V Cornelia Marie. “The hardest part about the whiskey is not getting into it after a bad day of fishing,” laughed Captain Casey McManus, also of the Cornelia Marie. Barrels of whiskey from Fremont Mischief Distillery ride along in these fishing boats. “It turns out the barrels of whiskey need to be rolled once a month to get the flavor of the barrels in the whiskey. More than a pin
The call for assistance from the fishing vessel Brenna A had already come in, and the Coast Guard Station Umpqua River crews were preparing to swap duty sections. The oncoming duty section was led by the Coast Guard’s newest Surfmen, Petty Officers 2nd Class Enrique Lemos (#559) and Aaron Hadden (#560). The two of them discussed the escort request upon reporting for duty at 7 a.m. They knew from the morning bar report that the Umpqua River bar was breaking at 14-feet on the series and also had 10 to 12-foot steep swells. The vessel, a 107-foot 198 gross ton fishing vessel, en route to Alaska had never crossed the Umpqua River bar before. They also knew that they were supposed to stand in front of their shipmates at 8 a.m. and be pinned with the distinctive surfman pin, a silver-colored life ring on top of two crossed oars. 31st annual Fishermen’s Fall Festival coming up Sept. 21
The yearly festival celebrates the return of the North Pacific fishing fleet to the terminal, and benefits the Seattle Fishermen’s Memorial Foundation. It’s a family-friendly event, with several free hands-on, fishing-themed art projects such as wooden boat building. Admission to the festival is free, but proceeds from all paid activities will go to the foundation to assist families of fishers lost at sea. If there’s one thing that’s going to motivate you to work hard — it’s the threat of having to slurp down raw COD INTESTINES like spaghetti if you mess up. Unfortunately for the newest crew member of the Brenna A on tonight’s Deadliest Catch, when he misses the crab pots with a throw of the hook that’s exactly what he’s faced with. Captain Sean Dwyer enforces the punishment to make sure his crew stay motivated and the newbie ‘greenhorn’ had started off well, landing every throw at the rail. But when he finally misses he has to follow through with the gut-wrenching consequences. Bring out the “Bering Sea sushi” — a gruesomely long piece of raw cod intestines. It happens! ‘Deadliest Catch’ Skipper Sean Dwyer busted for gear infraction
“Deadliest Catch” star Captain Sean Dwyer is in trouble with the law. Alaska’s Fish and Game officials fined Dwyer for some issues with his crab-catching equipment. The rules states that crab pots must have an 18-inch flap to allow the crab to escape, should it find its way back into the ocean. Dwyer’s crab pot only had a 15-inch flap, which has reportedly been fixed. The reality star reportedly paid $1,500 in fines and is now on probation for two years. Dwyer is the youngest captain of the Brenna A ship at 24 years old. It’s his first season with the hit Discovery series that has been airing for 12 seasons. Read the rest here 17:56
