F/V Neptune: Home again at Stonington Town Dock
Stonington – Co-captains Alan Chaplaski and Gary Farrell mended and cleaned fishing nets aboard the fishing trawler Neptune Tuesday after two days at sea in search of fluke, squid and whiting. STONINGTON — Neptune lumbers into port a bit late, her hold not quite as full of fish as some other days, her winches and outriggers a bit arthritic with rust. But cut her a break: she’s the oldest boat in the Stonington fleet. “She was built in 1967 by Luther Blount of Blount Marine,” says her captain, Alan Chaplaski. Read more here 04:58
76-foot F/V Neptune sinking, fuel spill in Haines, Alaska – Coast Guard responds
Watchstanders at Sector Juneau received a report from the Haines harbormaster of the sunken vessel early Saturday. The harbormaster reported the vessel was discharging fuel and that boom had been placed around the vessel to contain the spill. more@uscgnews 19:34
Coast Guard assists fishing vessel aground near Kodiak (F/V Neptune)
Coast Guard Sector Anchorage watchstanders received a report at 1:40 a.m. from the Neptune crew stating they ran aground and were taking on water. Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast for assistance from any nearby mariners and requested the launch of the helicopter crew from Air Station Kodiak. Read more
