Shrimp prices down amid flurry of imports, reports of foreign abuse
It was quiet as sunburnt deckhands scrubbed trawlers moored at the shrimp house on Wheelers Creek this week. The last three months of shrimping have been busy, busier than expected, Mitchell Seafood manager Randy Millis said on Tuesday afternoon. Despite fall’s robust harvest, shrimp prices are below ideal levels, Millis added. He attributes low prices to foreign pond- and farm-grown shrimp filling the U.S. seafood market. “This year has been a good year; it has been a good fall,” Millis said. “(But) this year, import shrimp is pushing prices down.” Read the article here 16:27
