Lobster catches on P.E.I. down about 40 percent

The president of the says lobster catches continue to be down dramatically this spring compared to last year.  Mike McGeoghegan blames poor weather and cold water temperatures. “I’d say the catches are down by about forty percent just because of the temperature,” said McGeoghegan. Food safety concerns cost Red Cove plant in Cape Wolfe, P.E.I. seafood plant its registration

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has not renewed the registration of a P.E.I. seafood processor, citing food safety concerns. The Red Cove plant at Cape Wolfe in western P.E.I. was registered to process lobster, crab and mollusks. The CFIA says the registration was not renewed, effective May 8, 2014. Read more here 16:48

P.E.I. looks to Japan for seafood exports

There’s growing potential for P.E.I. seafood in the Japanese market, says Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Ron MacKinley.
