From the Time of Christ and Paul
A major artifact illuminating Christ’s story is the so-called Jesus boat found in the mud near the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. While not really a boat that Jesus sailed in, coin and ceramic evidence indicate that this kind of boat was in use during the time of Christ and is typical of those used by His disciples. This wooden boat, 7.5 by 27 feet, was in use from about 50 B.C. to A.D. 50. Pottery and nails (along with carbon dating) secure the date of the boat to the time of Christ. This boat gives a good sense of what sailing on the Galilee was like in the days of Jesus and His disciples. >click to read< 12:31
Lobsters claw their way back to freedom
At the fifth annual ceremony, Island visitors and residents stood beside members of the Buddhist center as Karma Trinlay Rinpoche blessed the lobsters with sacred water and herbs. Then folks took turns picking up the lobsters and placing them gently into the harbor, where the powerful current will carry them far away from human dangers such as lobster pots and pollution. The lobsters were purchased from the Menemsha Fish Market and cooled before the ceremony in order to make the lobsters lethargic and prevent fingers from getting pinched. >click to read< 10:10
Perhaps this will help today – Shifting to the Other Side
A small shift can make a major difference in the harvest we reap. Peter along with Thomas, Nathanael, James, John and two other disciples decide they are going fishing (John 21:1-11). Most of these men were professional fishermen before Jesus called them. These men knew how to fish. They knew what it would take to catch fish. They had been catching fish for the majority of their lives. Fishermen understand what it takes to catch fish. Fishing sometimes calls for us to use different types and styles of bait. Fishing can also require us to change locations until we can find the fish. Fishermen have to be versatile in their approach to catching fish. Peter and his friends fished all night from the same side of the boat and caught nothing. Jesus came walking on the shore the next morning asking, “Children have you any meat”? They answered no. “Cast your net on the other side.” Read the rest here 09:53
