To our valued readers here at Fishery Nation.
To our valued readers here at Fishery Nation. You have probably noticed recently there have been no postings on our website. I’m sorry to say that I have recently taken ill and have been hospitalized for the past week in the intensive care unit of my local hospital.
As you know, I’ve made it a priority in my life to keep you all informed on the goings on in our commercial fisheries here in the US and also abroad with stories and information that we feel is important to you, and also stories of interest. For the past seven years we have fulfilled this goal 365 days a year, every single day!
Please bear with me as we get through this situation and I am able to get back on my feet and continue what has become my passion, and mission in life, to keep the commercial fishermen informed and up to date as to the goings on in your industry.
If all goes well this will be a short period of time and I’ll soon be on my feet and able to get back at it.
Thank you one and all for your support and understanding. God bless you all, stay safe out there and please stay in touch with us.
Sincerely,
Borehead
Brother Bore Head…. I called and left a message. You are truly a man among men and I hope you will be home soon. God Bless you and your wife.

Borehead, We all appreciate your sacrifices in providing the truth. Sending love and healing prayers your way. Hoping for a speedy recovery. Wishing strength for you and your wife.
Borehead, as much as we miss you, we will miss you all the more if you don’t recover. Take it easy, take your time and recover well. We’ll all still be here waiting expectantly for your healthy return.
Let us all get together and send an uplifting message to this man. What he does for us all, I believe, we sometimes take for granted. Imagine not having this awesome platform to come to and become informed about the commercial fishing world around us. What this man has provided us with is a service.
Think about all of the hours he spends filling this site with the news and information we all seek. Think about the paper publications that we purchase, or in my case used to purchase that charged us for no where near the content he provides. Some of these old “go to” publications have all but turned their back on us and I feel some have given us the back of their hand. Metaphorically speaking.
I have become a friend to him and at times have stopped by his very humble surroundings to say hello and offer encouragement when he is down, and yes, to give him and Carol some financial support because providing this service cost money. REAL MONEY!
I know others have done the same and for that I can tell you he is extremely great-full. In the past I have approached others and asked that they do the same and many have stepped up and done their part by giving them a contribution as a show of appreciation.
I suggested, many years ago that he put on the header of the page a link that readers can go to in order to make a contribution or set up an advertising section on the site. And for a very long time he pushed back on doing it. I can’t tell you why he wouldn’t do it but my gut feeling is that it made him feel as if he was begging for help. I would always tell him that he provides a service and for that he should be compensated, but I know it made him feel uncomfortable. It speaks to this mans character. He finally gave in after much wrangling and back and forth on the phone.
These folks live a VERY HUMBLE life and I can tell you that this situation is hurting them in many ways. And yes, financially is one of them. I know he won’t be happy with me but I’m going to say it anyway. If there is any way you are able to offer a hand up to these good people now would be a great time to do so. It’s very easy. Just click on the word donate in the blue bar at the top of the page and follow the prompts. Also, please offer some words of encouragement as he struggles to get through these challenging times. There’s nothing worse than sitting in a hospital bed waiting to be turned loose. Trust me I know. And with encouraging words comes an uplifting to the soul that will promote an attitude that will be conducive to the healing process.
BH, you take all the time you need to get back on your feet. I know speaking for myself, I’ll never abandon this valuable resource nor you. I believe there are many others who feel the same way. Get well my friend and always know that what you do is VERY APPRECIATED!
We love you man!!
Well said Joel. This man has dedicated his life and soul into helping others. Thank you for your kind and true words. Such a blessing to be valued.
God speed my friend
Damn……Get Well kiddo, I know about being in ICU, ain’t no fun at all….
Thanks BH for what you do..please get well soon!
So nice to meet you and call you a brother
Ken
Have been enjoying this blog for a long time.
Definitely worth a yearly memebership. Fisheries organizations should defintey become members and pay a yearly fee. Maine lobstermen could spend 5 minutes less in the casino and contribute to this great service.

So true Rob.
Borehead,
I can’t tell you how much your site means to me. It allows me to keep up with fisheries related news coast to coast and world wide. I can look at local New England issues and well as the Alaskan scene that has become so important to me as my son lives in Kodiak where he runs the F/V Alaskan fishing for Pollack and Tendering Salmon.
I’m on your site at least 2/3 times a day at a minimum. The amount of effort that you put forth goes above and beyond anything else that is available on line and in print.
I wish you Godspeed in your recovery.
I thank you for all that you have done for me and your total dedication to the Commercial Fishing Industry,
Best,
Ed Everich
Carol hope he is doing ok SAM PARISI
First, I would like to extend my heartfelt thoughts to Captain Joel Hovanesian. Thank you Joel, for putting this post together for our readers. I certainly wasn’t capable, as I was just about dead, literally. There are some commenters here that were part of my inner circle long before this place was even thought of. Many of us were brought together by Richard Gaines. As someone who had felt the injustice of the big bank destruction of businesses, investments, loss of homes and real estate, Richards reporting of the OLE scandal caught my attention, and It was something that I couldn’t ignore. I became active. Many of us go back away. One thing I recall was there was no place for you guys to call your own. That led to this place when the newsvine closed down. As far as my anonymity, I didn’t do this for fame nor fortune. Its always been about you guys. I’m just the janitor, and I’m satisfied with that position. I do need a raise though! lol!
BH, There is no need for you to thank me. As I have often said, the job you do and the service you provide those of us in this chosen field is truly amazing. Your dedication and resolve is an inspiration.
I recently received a complimentary print copy of a monthly commercial fishing publication seeking to sell me a yearly subscription. One copy per month!
As I said in my post, I can no longer support these publications as they seem to care more about their advertising than their content. And add to that, some of these publications have seemingly forgotten their roots and lost sight of what their original call in life was all about. Us, the commercial fishing community.
I was amazed that overwhelmingly, the content of this commercial fisheries publication had already been covered here on Fishery Nation. Some were stories and information that you had uncovered weeks earlier! It struck me that it would seem that many of their articles were found by you. Could it be that you are their most valuable source for their content? It sure seems that way to me.
So my friend, get well. Don’t over do it and remember….you must keep this site going, there are other sites and publications that depend on you for their continued existence. LOL!
I almost forgot, we need to work on that raise. I can’t think of anyone more deserving.
