Fisheries panel raises concerns about proposed flounder reduction
The Carteret County Marine Fisheries Advisory Board convened for the first time since February of last year to discuss what they feel is a misguided attempt to save the southern flounder population. At the end of the Wednesday meeting at the county administration building, board members decided to send a letter to Gov. Roy Cooper and other state figures. At issue is a portion of the Southern Flounder Fishery Management Plan. Amendment 2 of the plan recommends a 62% reduction in catch of southern flounder the first year, followed by a 72% reduction the following year.

Gamefish measure sparks commercial fishing industry anger
“It (the bill) is taking fish, which science has proven commercial fishing has little impact to, and gives it to the group that has 90 percent of it,” he said. “They (state legislators) are saying recreational fishermen should be given full control of the fishery.” continued
Carteret County Marine Fisheries Advisory Board adopts resolution opposing game fish House Bill 983
JDNews.com – BEAUFORT — An advisory panel in Carteret County has gone on record against a proposed game fish bill saying it would hurt the consumers of local seafood as well as the state’s commercial fishermen. The Carteret County Marine Fisheries Advisory Board adopted a resolution Tuesday night opposing the portions of House Bill 983 that propose to designate red drum, spotted sea trout and striped bass as coastal game fish. continued
