NTSB: Fishing vessel didn’t heed danger signals before fatal collision
The captain of a fishing boat that collided with a chemical tanker near Galveston, Texas, killing three people, did not respond to danger signals from the ship before the crash, the National Transportation Safety Board said Thursday. The federal agency issued a report in its investigation of the Jan. 14, 2020 collision that killed three crew members on the 81-foot (25-meter) fishing boat Pappy’s Pride. Authorities have recovered two crew member bodies from a capsized fishing boat missing since the boat collided with a tanker in dense fog. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said the bodies were recovered from the fishing boat Pappy’s Pride Thursday afternoon. The county medical examiner identified the two as 44-year-old Antonio Robles of Pharr and 56-year-old Raymond Herrera of Texas City. >click to read< 19:57

Norway-based Odfjell SE filed a motion Friday in response to a federal lawsuit brought by relatives of one of the fishermen who was killed. The family accuses Odfjell SE of failing to safely operate its 600-foot tanker, the Bow Fortune. The ship collided with the 81-foot Paddy’s Pride on Jan. 14 near the entrance to Galveston Bay.
