Hickeys Launch New Commercial Fishing Vessel
The Gunnar J is the new 46-foot aluminum trap net boat powered by a Cummins QSC 660 engine, built by Hickey Bros. Research. The construction was supervised by Todd Stuth at Hickey Bros. Research, with help from Dennis and Jeff Hickey, Steve Warwick and John Tong. The boat will fish Lake Michigan for the Hickey Bros. Fishery. It is named after Gunnar Stuth, son of Todd Stuth and the youngest grandson of Dennis Hickey. link 08:41
Coast Guard delivers dewatering pumps, saves boat and crew 66 miles west of Tillamook Head
The Coast Guard delivered three dewatering pumps, Tuesday morning to a commercial fishing vessel taking on water 66 miles west of Tillamook Head saving the boat and the crew, and is currently towing the vessel toward the Columbia River entrance. A boat crew aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, located in Ilwaco, Washington, is towing the fishing vessel Pura Vida and its three person crew and has an estimated time of arrival to the Columbia River of 6 p.m., Tuesday. Coast Guard watchstanders in the Sector Columbia River command center received a mayday call from the captain of the Pura Vida, a 48-foot commercial fishing vessel at 3:36 a.m., reporting the emergency situation and reported all crewmembers were wearing life jackets. The Captain also reported the vessel is equipped with a life raft and survival suits. A second pump was delivered from the commercial fishing vessel Western Edge, a good Samaritan vessel on scene. Commercial fishing boat runs aground off the coast of Cayucos
A commercial fishing vessel out of Morro Bay was returning to port when it ran aground early Friday morning near Point Estero off the coast of Cayucos. Nobody aboard was injured and there were no reports of significant water pollution or damage to the vessel, said U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Mark Barney. Harbor Patrol Supervisor Becka Kelly said the boat had been fishing about 40 miles off shore for slime eels. Updated: Husband Charged with Homicide After Reporting Wife Missing in Lake
Pennsylvania State Police have filed charges against the husband of an Albion woman who reportedly went missing in Lake Erie over the weekend. Erie News Now has learned Christopher Leclair, 48, has been charged with criminal homicide in the death of his wife Karen. Karen Leclair, 51, was reported missing Sunday afternoon. Christopher Leclair told the U.S. Coast Guard she had fallen off their commercial fishing vessel on Lake Erie Sunday afternoon. State Police tell us surveillance video catches Christopher Leclair and his wife heading onto the lake on Saturday and Christoper returning alone. Coast Guard medevacs 2 men from fishing vessel off Panama City
The Coast Guard medevaced two men from a commercial fishing vessel approximately 50 miles offshore of Panama City, Florida, Friday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report of two injured crewmembers aboard the fishing vessel Capt. Gorman III at about 7:00 p.m. A 50-year-old male suffered lacerations near his left eye and right hand, and a 55-year-old male suffered a laceration to his neck. Watchstanders directed the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, who hoisted the patients and transported them to Bay Medical Sacred Heart in Panama City. Ventura FD put out Series of Arson Fires – Commercial fishing vessel a total loss
On January 31st at 1:46 AM, Ventura City firefighters responded to a report of a boat fire in the Ventura Harbor. Upon arrival responding crews found a 50 foot commercial fishing boat 6 feet off the ground in dry-dock fully involved in. Fire suppression efforts initially concentrated on protecting an adjacent building and boat from the flames. Firefighters were able to suppress the bulk of the flames on the burning boat within 20 minutes of arrival. The boat, however, was a complete loss. Three additional small fires were discovered in the same boat yard at varying intervals throughout the firefighting operations: A fire involving a propane tank of a fork lift, a debris fire in a workshop area and a smoldering rag on the stern of another boat in dry-dock. Blue North Fisheries debuts state-of-the-art commercial fishing vessel
The F/V Blue North is a 191 foot freezer longliner owned by Seattle based Blue North Fisheries. The vessel was designed in Norway and built by Dakota Creek Industries in Anacortes. “I’m kind of pinching myself – we are finally here – we’ve got it,” said Patrick Burns who is the co-founder of Blue North. “It’s a state of the art vessel.” The $36 million fishing boat has been under construction for several years. It was delivered last week and has been receiving some final touches at Seattle’s Pier 91 as it prepares to make fishing history in Alaska’s Bering Sea. “This vessel is a game changer – it’s the greenest, most sustainable and highest tech commercial fishing vessel that’s ever been built in the United State and possibly the world,” said Kenny Down, President and CEO of Blue North Fisheries. Commercial F/V Sweet Marie rescues 26 passengers from grounded charter boat in Mexican waters
More than two dozen people on board a 63-foot sport-fishing boat were rescued in Mexican waters Saturday morning near the Coronado Islands southwest of San Diego, according to authorities. The U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center heard the call for help at about 5 a.m. that the American-flagged vessel Invicta had crashed into rocks. The Invicta was reported to be taking on water while it was anchored and the crew were deploying their life rafts, according to Coast Guard officials. Five crewmembers and 21 passengers were on board. The crew of the 35-foot commercial fishing vessel Sweet Marie overheard the calls for help and diverted to assist the Invicta, the Coast Guard said. Sweet Marie’s crew arrived on scene and safely transported all 26 passengers and crewmembers aboard their vessel and began to make way toward San Diego. Read the story here Watch video here 08:48
Marquesas Key: Coast Guard looking into commercial fishing vessel firing shots at recreational boat
U.S. Coast Guard investigators are looking into a report that someone aboard a commercial fishing vessel fired several shots at a recreational boat about 20 nautical miles southwest of Wednesday morning. The Coast Guard’s Investigative Service is conducting a criminal probe on “the alleged shooting incident,” according to an agency press release. It’s not yet known if any arrests were made. Special Agent Paul Shultz, resident agent in charge of Key West for the Coast Guard Investigative Service, could not be reached for comment. The people aboard the recreational boat, only described in the press release as a 20-foot pleasure craft, were reportedly diving when the incident happened about 9:45 a.m. Read the rest here 07:44
UPDATED: Search for missing fishermen continues today
Five divers are on their way to scour the water for crew members of a fishing vessel that went missing near Canterbury in a storm yesterday. A boat was located on the seabed last night but three crew from the FV Jubilee, who sent out a distress call during “brutal” weather about 4.30am yesterday, have still not been found. Canterbury police said five members of the Wellington-based police dive squad would help with the recovery phase of the operation today. Rockland survivor of fishing boat sinking says father-in-law saved his life
A Rockland fisherman credits his father-in-law with saving his life when the commercial fishing vessel the two were on sank three miles off the coast of Rockport, Mass., on Friday night. David Oakes, 46, of South Thomaston died, Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison confirmed Monday. Communication watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound, in New Haven, Conn., received a distress call from a crewmember aboard the 41-foot commercial fishing vessel Robert James stating his vessel was taking on water and it was sinking fast.
