Crew of sunken ‘Ocean Way’ was unprepared for emergency

On the morning of 3 March 2017, the twin-rigged trawler Ocean Way foundered 18 nautical miles north-east of Lerwick, Scotland, after suffering a flood in its aft compartment/accommodation space. The flood was almost certainly the result of hull damage caused when the port trawl door struck the hull during recovery of the gear. Despite the crew’s efforts to bring the flooding under control using fixed and portable pumps, the ingress of water exceeded the pumping effort and Ocean Way succumbed to overwhelming down flooding when the open accommodation space escape hatch submerged. >click to read<12:37

Coast Guard assists flooding F/V Blue Ocean near Cape Ann, Massachusetts

At about 1 p.m., watchstanders at the Sector Boston Command Center received a distress call from the vessel Blue Ocean via VHF Channel 16 saying they were taking on water and unable to control the flooding with their pump. <Read more here> 18:09

Flooding 60-foot F/V Endeavor contact Coast Guard for assistance at 09:15 this morning, tied up 12:20 this afteroon

uscg-logoNORTH BEND, Ore. — A Coast Guard boatcrew from Station Yaquina Bay, in Newport, assisted three men aboard a commercial fishing vessel taking on water about 10 miles north of the Yaquina Bay bar, Thursday. The crew of the 47-foot Motor Life Boat was able to safely pass portable dewatering equipment to the vessel and provided escort to the Port of Newport. Read more here 17:14
