New Bedford is the top-grossing fishing port in the United States and has been since 1999; an enviable record and a tribute to the vision and expertise of all those involved in sustaining an industry that is constantly evolving. While industry momentum has not flagged, the players come and go as markets shift, regulations change and fish stocks rise or fall. Seafood processor Blue Harvest Fisheries is a big presence on the waterfront today yet the company was unknown in the city until relatively recently. Jeff Davis: Peabody deal is ‘platform’ for more scallop vessel buy-outs

The deal by Bregal Partners and other investors for US scallop fishing firm Peabody will be a platform for more vessel acquisitions in the sector, said Jeff Davis, who will be CEO of the new company. On April 23, former American Seafoods International and Baader North America CEO Davis confirmed the buyout of Peabody and its eight scallop vessels, which is being renamed Blue Harvest Fisheries. Jeff Davis confirms deal for scallop fishing firm Peabody Fisheries

Jeff Davis and private equity Bregal Partners have inked a deal for US scallop fishing firm Peabody. Davis confirmed the deal closed on Thursday. On Feb. 12, Undercurrent reported the deal was in the works. He will become CEO of the new company, which will be named Blue Harvest Fisheries. Peabody, based in Newport News, Virginia, has a fleet of eight scallop vessels. Sources told Undercurrent the purchase price was in the region of $40 million. Davis declined to comment on this. After being in talks to buy Oceans Fleet Fisheries and looking at Wanchese Fish Company, Jeff Davis and his private equity partners are reportedly set to buy a US scallop company at last. Davis is being named by sector sources as the prospective buyer for Peabody Corp., a scallop fishing firm based in Virginia with seven or eight vessels.,,Davis was looking at Suffolk, Virginia-based Wanchese, which Canadian salmon farming firm Cooke Aquaculture is reportedly set to buy, Cooke is also thought to be looking to acquire Carlos Rafael’s 13 New Bedford-based scallop vessels and move them to Virginia, as part of the deal.
