Crew from the Grand Manan Adventure ferry sped to the rescue of fishing crew on a life raft
The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre says it got a mayday call from the Ross Pride around noon on Wednesday. The fishing boat was taking on water and listing, said the centre’s Lt.-Cmdr. Brian Owens. “They indicated that they were going to be abandoning their vessel, getting into their life raft,” he said Thursday. Owens said the centre immediately deployed a helicopter and a Hercules aircraft out of Greenwood, N.S. The centre also asked the Canadian Coast Guard station at Westport, N.S., and the United States Coast Guard in Eastport, Maine, to head to the scene. Video, >click to read< 11:25
Coast Guard, good Samaritan rescue 2 fishermen after boat capsizes in the Gulf
The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan rescued two boaters Thursday after their 25-foot boat capsized 50 miles west of Naples. Rescued were Frederick Cunningham, 42, and James Nipper, 48.
At 5:56 a.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a Mayday via VHF-FM radio channel 16 from a man stating, “Mayday, Mayday – this is the vessel…” but the transmission was lost. Two additional calls from the same man were received but no usable information could be heard. At 7:48 a.m., Coast Guard Seventh District command center watchstanders received an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon alert from the 25-foot commercial fishing boat. >click to read<19:16
Good Samaritan, Coast Guard rescue 2 fishermen near Pembroke, Maine
The crew of the fishing boat Alex Shea rescued two fishermen Tuesday afternoon after the fishing boat Born Again began sinking on Cobscook Bay near Pembroke, Maine. At around 11:54 a.m. the captain of Alex Shea issued a distress call after witnessing the Born Again sinking. A Coast Guard 45-foot rescue boat crew launched from Station Eastport to assist. The crew of the Alex Shea pulled the two scallop fishermen from the water and transferred them to the Station Eastport rescue boat. The Coast Guard crew brought the two fishermen to Eastport at around 12:33 p.m. where EMS was waiting. The fishermen were reported to be hypothermic but responsive. –USCG– 17:43
