Pilot describes ‘surreal’ rescue of 3 Halibut fishermen off N.S. coast

The pilot of a Canadian Armed Forces helicopter that rescued three fishermen from their burning boat in the Atlantic Ocean Sunday says the fishermen should be praised for the way they responded to the situation. “They got into a raft right away and made a radio distress call and brought the gear they needed,” said Capt. Evan Southern, who is based at 14 Wing Greenwood in the Annapolis Valley. Southern said he learned around 8:30 a.m. AT Sunday that a fishing boat around 110 kilometres off Nova Scotia’s South Shore was in flames, forcing the three halibut fishermen on board to get into a life raft. more, >>click to read<< 20:52

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders received a VHF radio call at approximately 21:30 Sunday from the F/V Nite Nurse, reporting that the vessel was taking on water and sinking. The Coast Guard issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and dispatched a Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, a HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew, and Coast Guard Cutter Kingfisher to the scene. >video, click to read< 18:17

Good Samaritan Vessel Rescues Three Fishermen from Capsized Trawler off Le Havre

At about 1245 hours Tuesday, the Regional Operational Center for Surveillance and Rescue (CROSS) Jobourg received an alert from the trawler La Rose des Vents (Compass Rose) reporting that the fishing vessel Antarès had capsized just off Cap de la Heve, a cape northwest of the port of Le Havre.,, Minutes later, the three crew members of the capsized fishing vessel were picked up by La Rose des Vents. The motor lifeboat rendezvoused with the good samaritan vessel and collected the survivors, along with the Antarès’ life raft and distress beacon.  >click to read< 09:48

The Canadian military says three fishermen rescued off Newfoundland’s west coast on Thursday are lucky to be alive. A fisheries patrol vessel was in the area of Little Port when its crew spotted the overturned boat and people in the water. Read more here

Three Fishermen Rescued from Sinking F/V Fjord Mist off the Washington Coast this morning

The fishermen were safely transported to Station Quillayute River by one of two 47-foot Motor Life Boat crews that responded to the sinking 50-foot fishing vessel; the second vessel remained on scene until the fishing vessel sank at 11:23 a.m. in 103 feet of water. more@uscgnews  Additional photo’s here 17:53
