A Fundraiser in Support of F/V Wind Walker Capt. Travis Kapp’s family after tragedy

On December 1st, 2024, my dear sister, Stephanie Two-Two, unexpectedly and tragically lost her life partner, Captain Travis Kapp. Travis owned and operated a commercial fishing vessel, F/V Wind Walker, a seine and long lining boat out of Sitka, AK, where they reside. In the early morning hours, the Wind Walker capsized with all 5 members aboard. A mayday call was placed reporting the boat overturning, but the crew failed to respond to all follow-up attempts by the U.S. Coast Guard. The search went for nearly 24 hours and covered more than 108 square nautical miles in low-visibility and treacherous conditions. They were unable to locate or recover any of the 5 men. Travis and crew are considered missing persons. Travis was a profound gem of a human. He had three passions in life; being a great father to Paige, his new blended family with Stephanie and her daughter Alice and running a commercial fishing operation. Fishing community rallying following fire at Ilwaco Landing

The fire at the Ilwaco Landing is likely to keep smoldering until Wednesday. However, the impact of the industrial fire could be felt in this fishing community for years. The fire destroyed several structures and more than 1,000 crab pots, according to Ilwaco Fire Chief Jeff Archer.“It’s a really big deal,” said George Pederson, skipper of the Judy S crab boat. “It’s the livelihood of the whole area.” He said crabbers from Washington, Oregon, and California are organizing donations to help crabbers get pots in the Pacific this year. Shrimp boat capt. says fire ‘scary,’ debris washes ashore

Roger “Rabbit” Cummings doesn’t know exactly how long he and the two crew members of the Miss Hopkins shrimp trawler floated in the water after jumping from the burning boat, but it seemed like a while. Cummings, the vessel’s captain, guesses they were adrift for about 45 minutes, donning lifejackets and keeping a tight grip on a hatch from the vessel before a speed boat came by and pulled the trio from the water while the Miss Hopkins was engulfed in flames nearby. They were about four miles off the coast of Jekyll Island. “It seemed like a long time,” Cummings said, “But it might not have been that long.” Eventually, a smaller boat that had seen the black plume of smoke on the horizon while in the Jekyll Sound pulled them from the water. The smoke was visible Friday afternoon on both Jekyll and St. Simons islands. >click to read< 08:07
