Atlantic Marine Monument Was Created To “Appease Environmental Terrorists”

fox-enviro-terroristsMedia Matters decided to take a segment from Fox news where they interviewed Captain Keith Colburn in discussing the President Obama creating the first marine monument in the Atlantic Ocean. Gazing at other headlines at the post, it’s easy to understand Media Matters is another liberal leaning website that like to mock anyone that disagrees. Its not a bad interview, and I appreciate a well known fisherman speaking on the subject, bringing attention to the truth. Environmental Terrorism of the elitist ENGO is alive and well, thriving to close off more fishermen from their chosen occupation because its never enough. Resources Committee Chairman Rob Bishop (R-Utah) called it!

Bishop called it. President Obama designated the first marine national monument in the Atlantic Ocean this week–off the coast of Cape Cod. Once again, the President made a huge decision without consulting anyone he really needed to, especially fishermen. Letter: Atlantic Marine Monument Area Vital To Fishermen – Jon Williams, Westport Island, Maine

Atlantic red crabI was disappointed with The Courant’s Aug. 18 editorial “Atlantic Marine Preserve Would Be Victory For Environment” endorsing a plan for President Obama to designate a marine national monument off the New England coast. Contrary to what the editorial stated, a monument would profoundly impact commercial fishermen. The editorial cited the Natural Resources Defense Council’s claim that the “vast majority of red crab landings” along the Eastern Seaboard are outside the proposed protection area. But take it from a crab fisherman: That area is vital to our livelihoods. Read the letter here 17:01

Eric Hansen – Atlantic marine monument would harm fisheries

fisherman-obamaWith President Obama leaving office in less than a year, environmental groups have urged him to once again use executive authority via the Antiquities Act to declare a new marine national monument, this time in the Atlantic Ocean. Such a proposal, which circumvents all established rules and procedures, is fundamentally undemocratic, and would put a stranglehold on the commercial fishing industry. A presidential declaration of a new national marine monument would result in potentially thousands of acres of prime fishing ground being closed off to fishermen. This would lead directly to increased costs for seafood processors, restaurants, and yes, seafood consumers. All of this will be done through a process that solicited little public input or stakeholder engagement and disregards the current, successful management process. Read the op-ed here 08:26
