Since locating and identifying Nicola Faith in April, the MAIB has gathered and analysed dive survey data from the vessel. F/V Nicola Faith: Expert says fishermen could have been saved

David Mearns, a chartered marine scientist, historical researcher, author, and expedition leader of deep ocean projects, confirmed the Nicola Faith has been found less than two miles out to sea in Colwyn Bay. Mr Means, owner and director of Blue Water Recoveries, said he and his team found the wreck using high-resolution solar imaging as as part of a privately-funded effort. The ship was later formally identified by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) and North Wales Police divers. But speaking on BBC Radio Wales, Mr Means outlined “alarming” findings and suggested there is “no reason” the boat was not found sooner, and that there is a “possibility” the men could have been saved. >click to read< 22:50

F/V Nicola Faith: The wreck discovered by the MAIB last week is confirmed as the missing fishing vessel

Today, MAIB inspectors attended the site of the wreck,1.9 nautical miles off Rhos Point, to identify the vessel. They were assisted by North Wales Police Underwater Search Team who undertook a comprehensive survey on behalf of the MAIB. As well as identifying the vessel, the survey gathered video evidence and information that will help inform our investigation and assist in understanding the reasons the vessel sank. F/V Nicola Faith: Crowd burst into applause fisherman’s funeral cortege travels through Welsh town

The Nicola Faith fishing vessel disappeared near Conwy on January 27. Its three crewmen, skipper Carl McGrath, 34, Ross Ballantine, 39, and Alan Minard, 20, were onboard at the time. An extensive search for the trio and their vessel was launched and the bodies of the three men were discovered at different coastal locations in England on three consecutive days in March. On Thursday, the funeral of Mr McGrath was held at St Mary’s Church in Conwy with restricted numbers due to ongoing Covid-19 guidelines, but many of his family and friends were able to pay tribute as his funeral cortege made its way through the town. >click to read< 07:38

Sunken vessel found in sea search thought to be missing F/V Nicola Faith

A sunken vessel has been found during a sea search for a fishing boat which vanished with three of its crew. The bodies of Carl McGrath, 34, Ross Ballantine 39, and Alan Minard, 20, were later recovered after the Nicola Faith went missing off the coast of Colwyn Bay on the evening of January 27. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said on Tuesday that a sunken boat had been found around two miles off the coast in Colwyn Bay. F/V Nicola Faith: Body found confirmed as third missing crew member, Alan Minard

Police have confirmed that a body found on The Wirral in north-west England is one of the three fishing boat crew who went missing near Conwy earlier this year. North Wales Police said the body has been identified as 20-year-old Alan Minard, who was on board the Nicola Faith vessel when it  failed to return to port on January 27. Earlier this month one of the vessel’s life rafts was found off the coast of south west Scotland. A body found off the Wirral coastline on Friday, March 12, is that of Ross Ballantine, police have confirmed. The 39-year-old was reported missing, along with two other fishermen, in January. North Wales Police said this evening: “We can confirm that the body found at West Kirby on Friday 12th March is that of Ross Ballantine, who went missing along with two others on the Conwy fishing boat ‘Nicola Faith’ in January. Breaking: Body of missing commercial fisherman Adam Harper has been found, and recovered

The body of a fisherman has been recovered after a trawler capsized off the Sussex coast. Police said divers brought the body of 26-year-old Adam Harper, from Brixham, Devon, up from the wreck of the Joanna C on Monday night. Another fisherman, Robert Morley, 38, of Pembrokeshire is still missing after the boat sank on Saturday. ‘It’s like a weight has been lifted’ – Family of Newfoundland Fisherman Isaac Kettle relieved his body was found

It wasn’t how they wanted to find him, but Isaac Kettle’s family is comforted in knowing that at least his body can finally come home. “This is the best, worst news we could get,” his wife, Kerri Lynn Kettle, said after hearing that a body found near Arnold’s Cove on the weekend is her husband’s. “But it was such a relief to know he’s finally coming home. Body found on Placentia Bay beach – RCMP in communication with family of missing fisherman

In a release, police said they were notified that lobster fishermen had found a body in the area of Doughboy Cove, east across the water from Arnold’s Cove. Clarenville RCMP and Forensic Identification Services travelled to the beach and secured the body and had it sent to St. John’s for examination after consulting with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Police said they have been in communication with the family of Isaac Kettle, the lone crew member of the Sarah Anne who has not been found, but there has been no positive identification of the body. >click to read< 20:26

Body found believed to be one of the two missing Tignish, P.E.I. fishermen

The body of one of the two fishermen involved in a boating accident early last week has been found. The body was found around 7 a.m. Sunday wrapped in seaweed on the south side of the North Cape point by someone searching the shore. The coroner has taken possession of the body. A search was originally initiated the night of the accident, Tuesday, Sept. 18 and involved resources from RCMP, Ground Search and Rescue and community members in Prince County for Glen DesRoches, 57, the captain of the lobster fishing boat ‘the Kyla Anne’, and his longtime first mate, Maurice (Moe) Getson, 54, after their boat capsized on that afternoon.,, The identity of the body has not been officially released at this time. Body found during search for missing Greymouth fishermen

A body has been recovered during the search for two missing fishermen on the West Coast. Police were yet to formally identify the body, found on Tuesday afternoon, but Bill Cairney​ confirmed it was his nephew, Jay Cairney​. “Yes, they found Jay’s body – it’s very upsetting, very very hard,” he said. The Greymouth-based fishing boat Wendy J apparently lost power and sank in poor weather near Jackson Bay, South Westland on Thursday night. click here to read the story 22:37

Police identify body found in Portland Harbor, investigating circumstances of death

Portland police have identified the body found Thursday morning in Portland Harbor as that of Paul J. Kirchhoff, a Portland fisherman. The state medical examiner’s office determined that Kirchhoff, 42, died from drowning, with no other source of physical trauma, according to Martin. One body found, empty lifeboat located in search for crew of El Faro

Image: Cargo ship El Faro missing in Hurricane JoaquinThe Coast Guard said it found the body of one crew member amid several survival suits floating amid debris from the El Faro, and crews also found one of the ship’s lifeboats, but it had no people or signs of life. The ship had two lifeboats, and each can hold 43 people. Chief Petty Officer Jon-Paul Rios said the Coast Guard and the owner of the 790-foot container ship El Faro concluded that the vessel sank after debris, containers and an oil sheen were found. ‘‘We’re definitely still looking for survivors at this time,’’ Rios said. ‘‘It’s still a very active search and rescue operation.’’ Read the rest here 11:01
