Air Station Kodiak helicopter crew medevacs 2 men from 2 fishing vessels near Cold Bay, Alaska
A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew forward deployed to Cold Bay medevaced two men Monday afternoon from the fishing vessels Ocean Peace and Northern Patriot 135 miles north of Cold Bay. The Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted a 21-year-old man aboard the Ocean Peace at approximately 5 p.m. and hoisted a 37-year-old man from the Northern Patriot at around 6:30 p.m. Both men were safely transported to Cold Bay Airport where they were transferred to commercial medical services. >click here to read< 22:54
Judge excludes drug test on Maine fishing boat captain facing manslaughter charges
A federal judge has restricted the federal government’s ability to use results of a blood test taken from a Cushing fishing boat captain accused of causing the deaths of two crew members when his lobster boat sank during a November 2014 gale. Coast Guard, NOAA seize illegal shrimp catch
The Coast Guard and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration seized approximately 6,000 pounds of shrimp with an estimated price of $60,000 from the 68-foot fishing vessel Ronald E. near the Dry Tortugas Shrimp Sanctuary Preservation Area, Friday. The vessel Ronald E. was observed fishing inside the marine sanctuary and was boarded by a Coast Guard Cutter Raymond Evans and NOAA joint boarding team. Coast Guard medevacs ill fisherman off Atlantic City, NJ
The Coast Guard medevaced a fisherman, who reportedly suffered from a respiratory issue Thursday, approximately 60 miles east of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay’s command center were notified by crewmembers of the fishing vessel Illusion of the ailing crewmember at approximately 6 a.m. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Willow, a 225-foot seagoing buoy tender homeported in Newport, Rhode Island, was directed by Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders to the Illusion and took the man aboard,,, >Video, click here < 15:35
The NIMBY’s! Coast Guard suspends use of Beaumont Hospital landing site after resident complaints
The Coast Guard’s helicopter service has suspended the use of the designated landing site for Beaumont Hospital after complaints from local residents. For the last number of years, a football pitch close to the hospital has been used as a landing site by both the Coast Guard helicopter service and the Air Corps to deliver patients to Beaumont, which is the country’s national centre for neurosurgery. The Coast Guard suspended their search Saturday at sunset for Howard “Dale” Smith missing 21 miles east of Myrtle Beach since late Friday evening. Coast Guard Sector Charleston Command Center watchstanders received a call at 9:29 p.m. Friday, from the crew of the Addis Sylvester, a 42-foot fishing vessel out of Little River, S.C., stating a crewmember had fallen overboard. Coast Guard searching for clammer who went missing during blizzard
The man, whose name has not been released, was reported overdue at 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Officials said he left to go clamming in a 16-foot skiff at about 6:30 p.m. during the storm. The man’s skiff has been located, the Coast Guard said. Officials are searching the area of Long Cove, west of Clark Island. link 09:00

“Paper Captain” – Coast Guard cites fishing boat for illegal foreign captain
The U.S. Coast Guard said Friday it found a foreign worker acting as the captain of an American-flagged commercial fishing vessel in federal waters off Hawaii. The crew of the U.S. Cutter Oliver Berry boarded the unnamed vessel on Dec. 19 and issued a citation after they suspected a foreign national was acting as the captain and operating the boat, the Coast Guard said in a statement . It’s illegal for a foreign national to operate a U.S.-flagged commercial vessel. Coast Guard rescues 2 on fishing vessel near Frying Pan Tower, NC
The Coast Guard rescued two fishermen aboard a vessel disabled and taking on water 20 miles southeast of Bald Head Island Friday. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center in Wilmington received notification at approximately 3:50 p.m. that the 50-foot fishing vessel Shannondoah was experiencing engine issues. The Coast Guard and good Samaritans rescued four people from a vessel 3 nautical miles south of Bayou La Batre, Alabama, Wednesday. The Eighth Coast Guard District watchstanders received an alert at 10 a.m. from an emergency position indicating radio beacon registered to the commercial fishing vessel Eunice Lemay with four people aboard. Freeport fisherman to be sentenced for catching red snapper without commercial license
A Freeport man is set to be sentenced Friday in a Houston federal court for lying to federal agents about a massive and unauthorized red snapper haul last March. Jamal Marshall, 36, who was only licensed for recreational fishing, pleaded guilty on Aug. 24 for lying to federal agents about hundreds of fish he’d brought in. He had 488 red snapper and 154 vermilion snapper on board the vessel when stopped by officials, a gross violation of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) catch limits. The fish had a market value of $30,000. But Marshall also admitted he had sold $35,000 worth of fish to Houston-area restaurants. click here to read the story 09:21

The Coast Guard medevaced a man who had suffered possible injuries aboard a fishing vessel near Hatteras Island Sunday morning. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Carolina in Wilmington received a call on VHF-FM channel 16 at 9:45 a.m. that a 20-year-old man had fallen down a ladder and suffered possible injuries to his hip, thigh and head aboard the 71-foot fishing boat Tamara Alane. Coast Guard rescues 2 people from fishing vessel taking on water
The Coast Guard rescued two people from their vessel near Venice, Louisiana, Wednesday. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a notification at 7:25 p.m. of two people aboard the fishing vessel Lady B as it was taking on water. Watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew and a Coast Guard Station Venice 24-foot Special Purpose Craft boatcrew at 7:36 p.m. The aircrew arrived on scene at 8:43 p.m. and safely hoisted the two people from the submerging vessel and transported them back to Air Station New Orleans. Efforts to F/V Pacific Paradise shipwreck off Waikiki fail yet again
Efforts to pull a commercial fishing boat stuck on the reef off Waikiki failed again Wednesday. Crews said they were suspending efforts to pull the Pacific Paradise out to sea after it got stuck on a sandbar as the tide started to drop. The U.S. Coast Guard said they’ll return Thursday to renew salvage operations. The 79-foot longline fishing vessel ran aground off Kaimana Beach on Oct. 10 when it was returning to its Honolulu home port from American Samoa with 20 people on board. Lawsuit alleges sunken fishing boat was ‘unseaworthy’
A lawsuit filed less than a month ago alleges the now-sunken fishing vessel “Misty Blue” was unseaworthy. The Coast Guard suspended the search for the missing crew members Michael Roberts, 44, and Jonathan Saraiva, 32, Tuesday night after the vessel sank about 10 miles off the coast of Nantucket Monday night. Coast Guard suspends search for 2 missing fishermen
The Coast Guard suspended its search Tuesday at 8 p.m. for two missing fishermen near Nantucket, pending the development of new information. The fishermen originally went missing Monday evening after their boat, Misty Blue, sunk approximately 10 miles southeast of Nantucket. Two other crewmembers were rescued by a nearby good Samaritan. A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced a man Sunday morning from the 143-foot fishing vessel American No.1, 230 miles north of Cold Bay. The Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted the man and safely transported him to Cold Bay where a LifeMed aircraft crew transported him to Anchorage for further medical care. Coast Guard District 17 command center watchstanders received notification from Health Force Partners reporting a 35-year-old male crewmember was suffering from abdominal pain and vomiting. Coast Guard, local agencies searching for 2 fisherman near Nantucket from 4 man crew
Coast Guard crews along with local agencies and good Samaritans are searching for two fisherman after their fishing boat sank Monday evening 10 miles southeast of Nantucket. At approximately 6:10 pm the First Coast Guard District command center received a distress call via an emergency positioning indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) from the 69-foot fishing vessel Misty Blue with four crewmembers aboard. The fishing boat Enterprise was in the area rescued two of the crewmembers and transferred them to Coast Guard Cutter Steelhead. Coast Guard and local agencies are currently searching for the remaining two crewmembers. Link 21:53

The Coast Guard suspended the search for an unconfirmed person in the water, Saturday. After searching for eight hours over 5 1/2 nautical square miles Coast Guard Sector New Orleans suspended the search at 5:47 p.m. At approximately 4:20 a.m. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report of a 30-foot shrimp vessel on fire in Long Bay near Buras, Louisiana. It was reported that the vessel later sank in approximately 4-feet of water approximately one mile from Joshua Marina. A portion of the super structure is visible above water. –USCG–

At approximately 4:20 a.m. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report of a 30-foot shrimp vessel on fire in Long Bay near Buras, Louisiana. It was reported that the vessel later sank in approximately 4-feet of water approximately one mile from Joshua Marina. A portion of the super structure is visible above water. It is unknown if a person was aboard the vessel when it sank. Recreational fisherman gets prison time for lying about red snapper haul
The tall tales about a 2016 fishing trip have caught up with Jacob Brown. His crime was not braggadocio but telling a falsehood about a tremendous haul. The Lake Jackson man was sentenced Wednesday to two months in federal prison for lying about a massive haul of red and vermilon snapper he said was meant to supply an Easter fish fry. Unlike other parts of the world, the U.S. and Russia work well together in the Bering Sea and the Arctic. The pair is enforcing fishing regulations and other laws, conducting search and rescue operations. The Coast Guard, and good Samaritans rescued six fishermen from the 57-foot fishing vessel Jane, reportedly taking on water 110 miles southeast of the Big Island, Hawaii, Monday. The six fishermen were rescued by the crew of the 70-foot fishing vessel VAK 2 and are en route to Hawaii where they will be met by emergency medical services and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The Coast Guard medevaced a 51-year-old man Monday from a fishing vessel 25 miles southeast of Murrells Inlet. Coast Guard Sector Charleston Command Center watchstanders received a call at 3:45 p.m. from the crew of the Shooting Star, a 42-foot fishing vessel, stating a crewmember was experiencing chest pains. A Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew launched at 4:28 p.m. and arrived on scene at 5 p.m. The Dolphin crew hoisted the man and transported him to Georgetown Memorial Hospital. -USCG- 19:12
Good Samaritans rescue 4 from fishing boat fire off Pillar Point Harbor
Four crewmembers from the commercial fishing vessel Ocean Gale were rescued by the crew of the commercial fishing vessel Smith Brothers #2, after a boat fire 13 miles southwest of Pillar Point Harbor. Fishermen aboard the Ocean Gale, a 37-foot vessel, contacted Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders at approximately 5 p.m., Monday, reporting a fire aboard their boat.,, Crews aboard four commercial fishing vessels, Alma, Mr. Morgan, Alicia Dawn and Smith Brothers #2, responded to the UMIB and diverted to the scene. click here to read press release 22:30
