Commercial Fisherman medevaced 80 miles west of Tampa
The Coast Guard medevaced a 37-year-old man from a commercial fishing vessel. F/V Swordfish, 80 miles west of Tampa, Thursday. An MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater flew the man to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition. Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders were notified by the fishing vessel captain of the man’s critical medical condition. Coast Guard Cutter Fir’s crew saved an unmanned, adrift fishing vessel less than one mile from running aground in Dry Spruce Bay, Alaska, Jan. 23, 2022. Fir’s crew launched a small boat and established a tow with fishing vessel Guardian less than 100 yards from shore. Vessels collide near Sunshine Skyway Bridge
A fishing boat and a barge collided Tuesday near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, the Coast Guard reported. In a tweet, the Coast Guard said a patrol vessel from the St. Petersburg station responded to the collision. Both vessels had minor damage. No injuries were reported. Coast Guard rescues 2 crewmen from commercial fishing vessel fire off Fort Myers Beach
A Coast Guard Station Clearwater MH-60 helicopter rescue crew rescued two people, Sunday, after their vessel caught fire approximately 28 miles south of Fort Myers Beach. The aircrew transported the men to Fort Myers Beach High School where local emergency services personnel treated the men on scene. The captain of the vessel contacted Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders via marine radio Channel 16 at 8:13 p.m., stating his 65-foot fishing vessel, F/V Jenna Dawn, was on fire. Coast Guard help Oregon State Police measure illegally small Dungeness crab; skipper cited
State troopers cited the skipper of a crab boat for taking undersized Dungeness crabs after a biologist noticed a large number of small crabs at a seafood processing plant on Oregon’s northwest coast. Oregon State Police said the investigation started December 6. Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo’s law enforcement crew detained a U.S. flagged fishing vessel Saturday for suspected shrimp fishing in the Dry Tortugas shrimp sanctuary during an annual closure period. Numerous safety escorts, vessel tows during first week of Dungeness crab season
Coast Guard crews across the Pacific Northwest have towed 10 disabled or distressed commercial fishing vessels back to port in the first week of the Dungeness crab season which began Dec. 1. These tow operations, along with numerous safety escorts, have ensured the safe passage of several fishing crews and more than 100,000 pounds of crab, (Thank You CG!) through hazardous bar conditions. Coast Guard crews stationed in Grays Harbor, Cape Disappointment, Coos Bay, and Chetco River, have contributed to the total of 10 tows. Other vessels have also been escorted across the bar. These safety escorts are conducted when dictated by hazardous conditions. 4 fishermen adrift in life raft rescued by Coast Guard off Block Island Monday
Smoke could be seen on the horizon for hours on Monday as the commercial fishing vessel F/V Mattie and Maren burned two to three miles off the shore of Block Island. A call to the Coast Guard was made at about 11:45 a.m., just as the Block Island Ferry was about to complete its 11 a.m. run to Block Island. Coast Guard medevacs a crewmember from a fishing vessel near Manasquan, New Jersey
The Coast Guard medevaced a fisherman Monday morning approximately 46 miles east of Manasquan. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received a call from the captain of a fishing vessel that a crewmember was losing and regaining consciousness while having difficulty breathing. A Coast Guard Air Station MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew was launched to medevac the crewmember after it was determined that weather conditions would not allow for a boatcrew to safely transfer him ashore. The aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted the crewmember, and transported him to Atlantic Care Hospital in Atlantic City. The vessel has been identified as F/V John and Nicholas. The Coast Guard received multiple reports of a possible fuel spill off the Southern California coast earlier than previously disclosed and asked local authorities to investigate about 15 hours before its own personnel confirmed a large oil slick, which came from a leaking undersea pipeline, records show. Hurricane Ida: Coast Guard Probing 350 Reports of Oil Spills in the Gulf of Mexico
The U.S. Coast Guard on Monday said it was probing nearly 350 reports of oil spills in and along the U.S. Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Ida. Hurricane Ida’s 150 mile per hour winds wreaked havoc on offshore oil production platforms and onshore oil and gas processing plants. The Coast Guard medevaced an injured crew member from a fishing vessel after a shark attack approximately 35 miles southeast of Grand Isle, Louisiana, Friday. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a call at 12:51 a.m. via VHF-FM channel 16 from personnel aboard the fishing vessel F/V Moon Glow stating a 64-year-old male crew member had been attacked by a shark and sustained a severe leg injury. The man had reportedly been untangling fishing nets from the vessel’s propeller when he fell overboard and was bitten by a shark of an unknown size and species. Coast Guard Aids Commercial Fishing Vessel Taking On Water Off LBI
A crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light aided the commercial fishing vessel F/V Relentless after it took on water just outside the Barnegat Inlet off Long Beach Island Sunday afternoon. The family owned and operated 74-foot East Coast scalloper/dragger is based out of Viking Village in Barnegat Light, Boatswain’s Mate Second Class Philip Augustino, who piloted the 47-foot motor lifeboat, said the station received a call directly from the fishing boat captain at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 29. A spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard on Monday said there are no additional updates since the agency announced last week it was suspending its search for a 36-year-old man who went overboard a commercial fishing vessel off the coast of Nantucket. The Coast Guard suspended its search and rescue operations on Aug. 17 for a crew member of Blue Wave, a scalloping vessel out of New Bedford owned by Blue Harvest Fisheries. A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew, forward-deployed to Cold Bay, medevaced a mariner Thursday from the fishing vessel Alaska Victory, approximately 130 nautical miles north of Cold Bay. The Coast Guard on Monday morning responded to a call for a man overboard from commercial fishing vessel F/V Blue Wave, a scalloping vessel belonging Blue Harvest Fisheries. CEO Keith Decker said the vessel returned to port Tuesday morning, where crew members will meet with Coast Guard officials. He said they are waiting for the investigation to determine what happened. There were seven crew members on the vessel, including the captain and the man who went overboard. A 36-year-old fisherman went missing from a fishing boat about 70 miles off the coast of Nantucket late Sunday night, and a search effort is ongoing, officials said. Crewmen on the fishing boat Blue Wave called the Coast Guard at around 11:20 p.m. Sunday to report the fisherman missing, Petty Officer Ryan Noel said. EPIRB alert launches Coast Guard rescue of a fisherman in a life raft Saturday, offshore of Grays Harbor.
At 11:39 a.m., Friday, watchstanders at the 13th Coast Guard District Command Center received an emergency position indicating radio beacon activation alert for the fishing vessel F/V Ruby Lily approximately 132 miles from Grays Harbor. Watchstanders launched crews from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento and the Coast Guard Cutter Alert to respond. A U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon in the vicinity of the vessel self diverted to respond to the scene and reported one person aboard the life raft. The man aboard, who was also the owner of the Ruby Lily, reported he was safe in the rigid hull life raft with two weeks of food and water. Around 10:40 p.m. last night, a fishing vessel reported that they were taking on water to the USCG Manasquan Inlet station. Initial reports said they had struck inlet rocks and had a hole in the vessel.
