Coast Guard rescues fishing crew from a rock near grounded fishing vessel off Beaver Inlet, Unalaska

The Coast Guard rescued four people Thursday after a fishing vessel ran aground near Dutch Harbor. A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew deployed aboard Cutter Bertholf hoisted all four survivors from a rock near the grounded fishing vessel F/V Endurance, approximately one mile west of Egg Island, near the entrance to Beaver Inlet, Unalaska. They were flown to Dutch Harbor and placed in the care of awaiting EMS with no injuries reported at the time of transfer. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard 17th District command center in Juneau received a transferred call via satellite phone emergency dispatch from the Endurance at 10:57 p.m. Wednesday, stating they had run aground, were severely listing, and taking on water. >click to read< 20:50

F.V. Atlantic Destiny sank late Wednesday morning – 31 crew members rescued by Canadian and USCG helicopters

The Atlantic Destiny ran into trouble after a fire broke out around 8 p.m. Tuesday, possibly in the engine room, The fire knocked out the vessel’s power and then the ship started taking on water. The captain and three crew members remained on board initially, while the other 27 were lifted off the ship one-by-one. “This was one of the craziest rescues that I’ve been a part of, for the situation and how many hoisted we had to do and how  challenging it was trying to calm the aircraft to go get the survivors picked up,” said Phillip Morales, USCG.  >click to read< 13:43

How fellow fishermen worked together to rescue a crew in Hardy’s Channel

In the shallow waters of Hardy’s Channel, near Lennox Island, P.E.I., a swamped lobster fishing boat is still sitting half- submerged, after getting stuck in a sandbar on Monday. The crew was rescued late Monday morning after the boat started taking on water. Skipper Nick Lewis says he is grateful for the nearby fishermen who came to their rescue, and saved their lives. Three boats came to the aid of the five fishermen, who were all in the water, without survival suits on. >click to read<18:04

All 7 crew of capsized Japanese fishing boat rescued

Two Japanese and five Indonesian crew members have been rescued after their 15-meter tuna fishing boat was found capsized about 400 kilometers from the Pacific island of Palau, the Japan Coast Guard said Thursday. Crew rescued from sinking fishing vessel off NJ coast

The commercial fishing vessel Lady Gertrude sank early Monday morning while it was fishing about 40 miles southeast of Sandy Hook, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Petty Officer Steve Strohmaier, Coast Guard Station New York, said the vessel started taking on water and the vessel’s three-man crew abandoned the ship and got into a life raft. The crew put on their survival suits and activated the boat’s emergency radio beacon before leaving the craft. Strohmaier said good Samaritans from the boat Mazey James rescued the crew — all three of which survived the ordeal. The New York Police Department’s Aviation Unit and the U.S. Coast Guard both responded. Stohmaier said what caused the Lady Gertrude to sink is under investigation. Read the rest here 16:12

Atlantic Charger’s crew rescued from life-raft in Frobisher Bay – Vessel still afloat

All nine crew members who were aboard a stricken fishing vessel near the mouth of Frobisher Bay in Nunavut have been rescued from a life-raft and are on board a Danish ship, the Canadian military’s Joint Task Force Atlantic said Monday evening. The rescued crew were on their way to Iqaluit, a journey of about 400 kilometres that will take several hours. The ship, the FV Paamiut, may also have to wait for high tide before the men can be brought ashore. UPDATED: CF/V Cape Dorset crew rescued, vessel sank off Burin Peninsula – No injuries reported for all 19 crew members

The fishing crew aboard the Cape Dorset is safe after the vessel sank off the Burin Peninsula Saturday morning. A distress call was sent out from the ship around 9 a.m. after the boat started taking on water. The Ivy Rose, another fishing vessel, was the first to respond to the distress call.
