Area Boat Prepping For ‘Wicked Tuna’ Television Spotlight
While most of the Ocean City fishing fleet is settling in for the siege with the arrival of frigid temperatures and rough seas, at least one popular resort-based charter fishing boat is quietly preparing for the opportunity of a lifetime. Captain Dale Lisi of the “Foolish Pleasures” based at the Ocean City Fishing Center in West Ocean City has been chosen as one of a handful to participate in and appear on the latest season of “Wicked Tuna.” Read the article here 20:32
From skiffman to skipper: Cox’s Cove man becomes Cold Water Cowboy
The newest skipper to join the cast of Cold Water Cowboys says Discovery Canada threw him into the deep end. Not only was this his first foray into television, but the fisherman was also asked to perform a job he’d never done. “When you shove someone out of a skiff that don’t have a clue, it’s a challenge that’s for sure,” Rick Crane told CBC Radio’s Corner Brook Morning. Crane said he was first approached by the show when it was looking to cast a young skipper. But, at that time, he had issues with his boat and wasn’t able to film. Read the article here 12:53
‘Deadliest Catch’ spinoff “Dungeon Cove” is coming to Discovery Channel
Discovery Channel is spinning off its “Deadliest Catch” series, with a new series that explores the lives of Dungeness crab fishermen and their families in and around Newport, Oregon. “Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove,” which the network says is a working title, is set in one of the last remaining fishing towns along the edge of the Oregon coast, heading north to British Columbia an area that has earned the dubious distinction of being crowned Graveyard of the Pacific. Britain’s hard-toiling fishermen are cast and crew of Channel 4’s new fishing documentary series The Catch
Rugged, taciturn and fearless, fishermen are the last-action heroes of the high seas. Or so gung-ho documentaries such as Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch encourage us to believe. “A lot of these shows are built around sensationalizing the danger,” says Incledon, who gained his sea-legs filming Lifeboat Rescue for the BBC in 1999. “The reality of what fishermen do and how they interact is far more interesting. They are a tight-knit bunch and don’t trust outsiders. They’re incredibly superstitious: no women on board, don’t cut sandwiches into triangles, never say ‘rabbit’ [old sea lore dictates that mere mention of the word will bring ill fortune].” Read the rest here 13:44
Deadliest Catch’s First Female ‘Intimidated’ Salty Dogs
Greenhorn Amy Majors is the first female shipmate to join Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch.” She sat down with FOX Business Network’s Stuart Varney, along with Captain Keith Colburn, to discuss why she wanted to hit the rough seas. “I’ve been a fisherman my entire life. I’m third generation… it’s a family thing,” she said. Captain Colburn nearly replaced Majors because she intimidated the all-male crew. Video, Read the rest here 15:51

The sassy women of ‘Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks” call Hatteras home, “Oh, there’s always drama,”
By 2003, Gray found herself living in Hatteras village and working on charter fishing boats. So she asked Hatteras commercial fisherman Jeff Oden for work. And before she knew what happened, she was on Oden’s boat, commercial fishing. “Here’s she’s going off to Hollywood,” Oden jokes, “and I’m left here in the weeds.” Last year, Gray was contacted by the “Wicked Tuna” production, asking if she wanted to do the show with her husband. “He said, ‘hell, no!’,” she says. But the man from Wicked Tuna persisted, asking her again about doing it with Tilman. “He says, ‘Can’t you give your husband a couple of drinks and talk him into it?’” Gray says. ‘Deadliest Catch’ Favorite Capt. Phil Harris Voted Greatest Reality TV Personality of All Time
Online competitions are often nothing more than a popularity contest — where a show can mobilize its fans to get out the vote before the polls close. But sometimes, as is the case with our two-week race to crown the Greatest Reality TV Personality of All Time — the popular pick is also the right one. Capt. Phil Harris — a rock star of the Bering Sea crab-fishing fleet who finally got the chance to know his sons, Josh and Jake, when they became deckhands on the Cornelia Marie — dominated each round: He won the Hero title (with 73 percent of the vote), breezed through the semifinals (with 46 percent), and ultimately defeated Hell’s Kitchen’s Gordon Ramsay in the final (with 86 percent). COVER STORY: ‘Cold Water’ heroes
Forever, it seems to me, a weathered skipper sporting a sou’wester has been our founding industry’s face. But the fishery has evolved a lot since the days of sou’wester-wearing men who jigged cod or hauled cod traps over the side of a skiff. Nothing in my mind is showcasing the modern fishery’s risks, innovation and attitude better, nothing is changing the sou’wester stereotype with people outside the industry (especially the Townies and Mainlanders) faster, than “Cold Water Cowboys.” Read the rest here 14:41

Deadliest Catch kicks off its 11th season 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 14 with a cutthroat episode that looks at the always treacherous profession of king-crab fishing in the Alaskan Bering Sea. The captains profiled on the show have become household names among reality-TV fans, and one of the most memorable is Capt. Wild Bill Wichrowski.,, Wichrowski said the 11th season will be different because Discovery Channel has “upped the scale of the camera equipment.” So, even though the story lines will be familiar, the visuals should be even more stunning. Alaska Reality Wars | Selling Out Our High Sea And Distant Shores.
The vast expanse of the last frontier is quickly becoming the king of prime time television entertainment. There is another gold rush in Alaska and its attacking our screens with the ferocity of a Kodiak brown bear. There are over twenty reality TV shows currently airing on numerous cable networks that have some affiliation with Alaska.,, This “selling out” of our high seas and distant shores hits closer to home than I ever realized it could. Over the past months, I have been in negotiation with an unamed reality production crew, Read the rest here 17:16
“Deadliest Catch” Star Sig Hanson Get’s Dumped By Trump! – “The Sexiest Catch” Theme Was a Bomber
Sig went with a “The Sexiest Catch” theme. However, Kate didn’t like it , claiming the Hooters girls might be too edgy, especially since they didn’t know what types of people would be on the cruise. But Sig was absolutely convinced it would work for them, saying, sex sells. (right?) It flopped. Trump said, “Sig, you’re fired!” He also said he would donate $25, 000 to Sig’s charity, the Coast Guard Foundation. Read the rest here 17:24

Sig Hansen may be great in the Bering Sea, but how about in the chilly “Celebrity Apprentice” boardroom? Basically, he is going from Alaska to one of the most-populated places in the world for this competition. This competition could be tough for Sig, but almost from a sociological perspective, we are interested to see how he fares in the boardroom alongside celebrities with giant egos. Celebrity Apprentice 2015 season debuts on NBC on January 4. Read the rest here 16:00
DEADLIEST CATCH: 7 Things We Hope to See (or Not) in 2015!
Last season on Discovery Channel’s hit series, DEADLIEST CATCH, there were a lot of storylines to follow. We Hope to See: Jake Harris Battle His Demons and Win: Older Harris brother Josh took the Cornelia Marie out fishing, but younger brother Jake stayed home, still fighting his personal battles. We Hope NOT to See: Mandy Hansen. Speaking of greenhorns, we really would rather not revisit Mandy on the Northwestern this season. Read the rest here 13:19
