Maine Lobsterman a Social Media Star
By all appearances, Jacob Knowles lives the life of a typical Maine lobsterman. Knowles, 30, is a fifth generation Maine lobsterman; he’s been going out on lobster boats since he was in elementary school. He’s been working on his own since he graduated from high school. But lately Knowles, who’s married with two young children, has been working in a different universe. He’s been posting video clips while he’s out lobstering, and they’ve gone viral. Knowles is now a social media star, with 3.5 million followers on TikTok and 400,000 on Instagram. Fishermen reeling as further whale protection measures fast tracked
Maine lobstermen worry that their fate is sealed. Dozens gathered Tuesday evening in the Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School cafeteria for a livestream of a NOAA Fisheries scoping session on modifications to the Atlantic Large Whale Take Reduction Plan. Hundreds more participated online. Spurred by a recent court ruling, federal regulators are fast tracking plans to achieve a 90 percent reduction in entanglement risk. “These are measures that are going to really hurt and there were measures that were put forth that look really bad that didn’t come close to 90 percent, so I want people to realize that this is real, that this is coming and it’s not going to be pretty,” said Kristan Porter, president of the Maine Lobstermen’s Association and an Atlantic Large Whale Take Reduction Team member. >click to read< 10:15
Video: Maine fisherman catches monster wolf fish, here’s what happened next
A fisherman recently caught a monster wolf fish, gave it a lobster to eat and then threw it back into the ocean. Maine fisherman Jacob Knowles posted a video of himself catching the giant fish on Instagram. At the start of the clip, the wolf fish could be seen lying on the floor of the boat. As the fish growls and thrashes around, Knowles could then be seen picking up the creature and holding it up to the camera. The reel, that has got more than 8,000 views on Instagram so far, shows Knowles saying that the wolf fish killed everything in the trap.
