Port of Jersey Investigation: Vessel became grounded after crew fell asleep

A fishing boat making its way back to the Island after unloading in Normandy became grounded in Belcroute Bay after the crewman at the helm fell asleep, a marine accident investigation has found. L’Ecume II, one of the largest vessels in the Island’s fleet, had been at sea for 42 hours when the incident occurred. The two-man crew had been unable to rest after offloading their catch in the port of Granville, as authorities had requested the boat move on immediately owing to Covid rules.,, Investigators were told by the deckhand that his last recollection was seeing that there were 28 minutes of the journey left. Coast Guard, responders prepare to move fishing vessel grounded in Hilo Bay

Responders are working to remove potential pollutants from the 63-foot fishing vessel, Midway Island, currently aground off Hilo. The Coast Guard is working with the Department of Land and Natural Resources and contractor personnel to mitigate the potential pollution threat from the vessel. Coast Guard responds to fishing vessel grounded on Clatsop Spit near the Columbia River Bar entrance, Wash.

Shortly before midnight the master of the 38-foot commercial fishing vessel Theron contacted watchstanders at Sector Columbia River over VHF channel 16 to report he experienced a loss of steering while attempting to cross the bar and was drifting toward the breakers and shoal. Ilwaco fishing boat destroyed on Clatsop Spit – Ilwaco-based 38-foot commercial fishing vessel Theron lost its steering and was destroyed by the surf on Clatsop Spit early Monday morning, but skipper Eric Johnson was rescued by the Coast Guard and wasn’t injured.>click to read<

F/V Sea Lion II meets its doom on the Bayshore….

The Sea Lion II’s owner-hired-captain indicated that he fell asleep and woke up too late to stop the grounding of the fishing vessel. The Sea Lion II was built in Japan back in the 1960s but spent much of its fishing life working the west coast of the U.S. It’s last load of salmon was off-loaded and hauled to Newport – it’s engine was also reportedly salvaged.
