Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut receive proposals for offshore wind projects
Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut received proposals Wednesday for offshore wind projects as the three East Coast states hope to boost their reliance on the renewable energy source. The three states joined in a historic agreement that allows for potential coordinated selection of offshore wind projects. Mitchell takes oath of office for sixth term as New Bedford mayor
New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell was sworn-in for his sixth term Monday night. Gov. Maura Healey administered the oath of office to Mitchell for a four-year term. Mitchell, who won re-election in November with about 64% of the vote, delivered an inaugural address. Moments after he was sworn in, Mitchell reaffirmed his commitment to making the city safer, stronger and at the forefront of new technology. Healey solicits ‘largest’ offshore wind bid
Massachusetts is putting out bids for another round of offshore wind projects – the largest procurement to date – to comply a mandate requiring it to tap into more clean energy sources, but the move comes at a risky time. Gov. Maura Healey announced on Thursday that the state plans to solicit up to 3,600 megawatts of additional offshore wind power, the equivalent to 25% of the state’s annual electricity generation. “With our top academic institutions, robust workforce training programs, innovative companies, and support from every level of government – Massachusetts is all-in on offshore wind,” she said.
