Two rescued after shrimp boat capsizes during storm in Pamlico Sound
The two-man crew of a small shrimp boat from Carteret County were rescued by the Coast Guard early Wednesday after their craft capsized in the Pamlico Sound during a thunderstorm. The Mad Lady II from Marshallberg was reported overdue Tuesday evening, after reportedly running into generator problems while trying to reach Englehard.,, A Coast Guard helicopter from Air Station Elizabeth City located the Mad Lady II capsized off Hog Island around 6:20 a.m., and a Good Samaritan also reported finding debris nearby, Kendrick said. At 7:32 a.m., the captain and mate were found by the helicopter crew clinging to debris about seven miles from where the boat went down. >click to read<10:26
Two fishermen rescued from burning fishing boat in Cook Inlet
Alaska commercial fishermen report a dramatic rescue in Cook Inlet early Thursday. Domnin Martushev said was getting ready to fish for sockeye salmon early this morning when he noticed thick, black smoke pouring out of a nearby vessel. “We knew something was wrong,” Martushev told KTUU by cell phone from the fishing vessel, Player. Matushev and his captain motored toward the burning vessel. Another fishing boat had also come to help but its engine died so it wasn’t able to assist. The Player approached the burning vessel, Winchester. “We went up to the bow and we grabbed the two passengers. We grabbed their hands and tossed them in our boat,” Martushev said. Video – Two fishermen rescued after their boat sinks off the Cork coast
Two men were rescued at sea this morning by Castletownbere’s RNLI. Castletownbere’s RNLI all weather lifeboat was launched early this morning to go to the assistance of a fishing vessel which was reported sinking eleven miles south west of Dursey Island on the Beara peninsula. The naval vessel LE Orla and the Coastguard’s Rescue 115 helicopter were also tasked. The lifeboat was on scene at 5:50am and found two fisherman in a liferaft. The men, both in their 40s, were taken aboard the lifeboat and were reported to be safe and well. The lifeboat is due to arrive back to Castletownbere at approximately 8:00am this morning.
