F/V Arctic Fox II remembered as ‘huge part’ of Gibson’s fishing community
As the fishing community comes to terms with the losses, a former owner remembers The Arctic Fox II’s ties to Gibsons fishing culture. It began with a cod war between England and Iceland in the 1970s. At the time Ivan Tentchoff and his wife were running an environmental summer camp. They gave children a chance to explore coastal waters from Powell River to Alaska onboard the Arctic Loon and the Arctic Fox. They were on the hunt for a larger boat to make bigger crossings. That’s how Tentchoff, now 91, ended up in the Scottish fishing town of Fraserburgh. That’s where he struck gold. >click to read< 12:00

US Coast Guard acted properly – Chang
National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang is claiming that the US Coast Guard followed correct procedures in the case involving the five Jamaican fishermen who claimed they were subjected to inhumane treatment after being detained in 2017. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which is seeking compensation for four of the fishermen, claimed they were stripped naked, chained to the decks of US Coast Guard vessels, made to lie in faeces and had their boat burned. On Sunday night Dr. Chang told RJR News that the fishermen did not file a complaint about their alleged mistreatment by the U.S. Coast Guard. He claimed that the Coast Guard “responded within (the) legal framework of our agreement with the US Government and we had no complaint from the men involved prior to this report.”>click to read<08:31

Coast Guard instructors ensure federal fisheries enforcement consistency in Alaska
In the middle of the Bering Sea, from the perspective of a 25-foot Coast Guard small boat, only two things can been seen in the vast ocean besides waves and birds: the Coast Guard cutter you launched from, and the fishing vessel you are headed to. The step aboard the fishing vessel is a dangerous one. Body armor, dry suits and a utility belt full of gear encumber law enforcement officers as they conduct a boarding. They must time the swell correctly so they are not injured moving between the two ships. Read more@dodlive.mil 09:47
