If anyone should know the value of a seal coat, it’s Rod Stewart. Sure, he had a first-hand viewing of thousands of froze-to-death Newfoundlanders huddled together in July stuttering their way throughH-h-h-hot Legs while wearing snow pants. Any man who goes onstage with that haircut can’t be embarrassed about much. If I was him I would have taken off the coat and put on a seal hat. A well-known anti-sealing (radical) activist is using social media to shame Rod Stewart’s sealskin coat fitting. Before performing in St. John’s, the British rock star got fitted for the coat at Always in Vogue on Water Street — a move that garnered attention and praise from many local residents. “You see Rod Stewart simply does not give a damn. He’s in the Ted Nugent, Kid Rock school of rock musicians who have hearts of stone and blood on their hands and thrive on the sadistic thrill it gives them to be known for their lack of empathy and kindness.” Read the rest here 07:55

It took me a while to decide how to most accurately describe the situation that has been visited upon the New England fishing communities that are and since colonial times have been dependent on the groundfish fisheries.

While it’s a fact that’s hardly ever acknowledged, the assumption in fisheries management is that if the population of a stock of fish isn’t at some arbitrary level, it’s because of too much fishing. Hence the term “overfished.” Hence the mandated knee jerk reaction of the fisheries managers to not enough fish; cut back on fishing. What of other factors? They don’t count. It’s all about fishing, because fishing is all that the managers can control; it’s their Maslow’s Hammer. When it comes to the oceans it seems as if it’s about all that the industry connected mega-foundations that support the anti-fishing ENGOs with hundreds of millions of dollars a year in “donations” are interested in controlling.
