In case you haven’t been acquainted, meet bluefin tuna, the luxurious seafood superstar. According to Fishing Booker, the bluefin is prized for its delicious meat, and it comes with a price tag of royal proportions. Until the 1970s, says The New Yorker, fishmongers didn’t so much as bat an eye at the good old bluefin, often selling the delicacy for less than one dollar per pound. I rescued a bird at sea and now I’m getting called the Owl Whisperer
Michael Clark, 55, saved the struggling animal after he spotted it being terrorised by gulls. He took it onboard trawler Benarkle II, which is registered in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, where it was spoiled. After two days it was eating steak out of his hand but it caused an unexpected problem when it pooped all over the wheelhouse. Three oyster bays closed may have a strong impact on the oyster industry
Texas Parks and Wildlife Commissioners have voted to permanently close three bays to oyster fishing, and the closures have many Texas oystermen worried about what this means for their livelihoods. The unanimous vote comes after commissioners listened to hours of testimony against the closures from oyster fishermen. Parks and Wildlife shut down Carlos, Ayres, and Mesquite bays near Matagorda Island. TPWD says the decision to close the bays is to let the oysters grow, but oyster fishermen, like Johnny Jurisich, say the closures could hurt the oyster industry. >click to read<

Jefferson store to host author of ‘The Lobster Lady’ Nov. 12
Lynn Farrin, owner of the Jefferson Market & General Store, has announced that the store will be hosting author Barbara Walsh on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a book-signing. Walsh is the author of “The Lobster Lady: Maine’s 102-year-old Legend,” the true story about Rockland resident Virginia Oliver, who is the oldest lobster trapper in Maine, and maybe even the world. Walsh said Farrin reached out to her after she saw the recent “207” show that featured her book on Oliver. “The Lobster Lady has a special place in my heart,” Farrin explained. “It’s amazing she is still lobstering at the age of 102. >click to read< 07:47
