American Seafoods screening 2 more crews after most on third vessel test positive for Coronavirus

The new round of testing involves the crews of the American Triumph and the Northern Jaeger as they dock in Bellingham, according to a company statement. “We’re conducting these tests out of an abundance of caution,” said Mikel Durham, the company’s chief executive. All three of American Seafoods’ vessels had been participating in the Pacific whiting harvest off the Northwest coast with large crews onboard to operate the vessels and equipment that processes and freezes the catch.  Last week, a crew member of the American Dynasty tested positive and was hospitalized in Bellingham. Coronavirus: Seafood processors respond to COVID-19 with added precautions

Seafood industry processors say they are in ongoing discussions with local, state and federal partners,,, The seafood industry talking points including working around the clock on prevention and response, coordinating with partners that include public health officials, preventing the spread of COVID-19 within Alaska and keeping seafood safe, said Stephanie Madsen, executive director of the At-Sea Processors Association. The Seattle-based trade association represents six member companies who own and operate 16 U.S. flagged catcher/processor vessels participating principally in the Alaska Pollock fishery and West Coast Pacific whiting fishery. Canadian government to receive $3.1 million after U.S. fishing vessel plowed into the frigate

The incident happened in April 2013 in Esquimalt Harbour. The American Dynasty, owned by American Seafoods Co., was heading towards the graving dock for repairs when it accelerated and crashed into HMCS Winnipeg tied to a jetty. The Canadian government launched legal action against American Seafoods. The $3.1 million payment is an out of court settlement. The Royal Canadian Navy has not said how much repairs to HMCS Winnipeg cost taxpayers. Read the rest, five more images here 07:29
