Coast Guard medevacs fisherman 100 miles off Cold Bay, Alaska
The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a fishing vessel Tuesday approximately 100 miles northwest of Cold Bay. An Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted the man at 6:55 a.m. and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services in Cold Bay for further transport to Anchorage. Watchstanders in the 17th District command center in Juneau received the request for the medevac from the fishing vessel Defender at approximately 7 p.m. Monday for a 26 year-old crew member who was experiencing eye and head pain. >click to read< 21:11
Coast Guard medevacs man from fishing vessel near Cold Bay, Alaska
A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew forward deployed to Cold Bay, Alaska, medevaced a man Wednesday from the 154 -foot fishing vessel Defender 260 miles north of Cold Bay. The Jayhawk helicopter crew hoisted the man at 10:45 a.m. and safely transported him to St. Paul where he was transferred to commercial medical services. Jensen provides engineering for fishing vessel conversion
Jensen Maritime, Crowley Maritime Corp.’s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, provided engineering services including structural and mechanical work for the conversion of a 170-foot long, 40-foot wide, fishing vessel for Global Seas LLC by shipbuilder Patti Marine Enterprises Inc., Pensacola, FL. The vessel, Western Venture, now named Defender, underwent significant conversion to make her the first fish pumping vessel in the Global Seas fleet. Because the vessel was being converted from fishing work on the East Coast (herring and mackerel) to West Coast fishing (pollock), a new fish pumping system was installed on the stern and a new full forward sheltered fish distribution room was constructed for protection during the fish sorting process. Coast Guard in Southeastern New England, local partners, good Sam save 5 lives in 3 separate incidents
The Coast Guard, partner agencies, and a good Samaritan teamed up to respond to three separate Southeastern New England maritime emergencies since Thursday evening.
