Fishing Vessel Nord-Fugloy: Seiner designed for northern Norwegian waters
Norwegian shipbuilder Larsnes Mek Verksted recently delivered a new seiner to compatriot fishing company Camaro Fiskeriselskap. Named after a local island, Nord-Fugløy was built to a DNV-compliant design developed by local naval architecture firm Skipskompetanse for seine netting and purse seining. Kent-Arild Apneseth, project manager at Skipskompetanse, said the brief from the owner was to optimise a vessel for the coastal fishery and implement a new way of operating Danish seine, hauling the net from the stern in a manner that will increase efficiency and to be able to operate more securely in a larger weather window. Latest LNG Powered Pelagic Catcher
Designed by Salt Ship Design, F/V Sunny Lady follows Libas, built for Lie Gruppen at the same yard as the first fishing vessels to run on LNG as fuel. Cemre has another such innovative vessel under construction, the Skipsteknisk-designed Selvåg Senior, which has been launched for outfitting – cementing Cemre’s reputation for building highly sophisticated fishing vessels. F/V Sunny Lady – the name is a historical one for owners Teige Rederi and came from a merchant vessel that was once part of the family company – is arranged for pelagic trawling and purse seining. “Crew School” – Course aims to impart Alaskan purse seining skills
The Gig Harbor BoatShop and Washington Sea Grant are launching the Purse Seine Vessel Crew Member Training Program, or “Crew School,” designed to provide instruction on the fundamental skills needed to work on a commercial fishing vessel. Led by experienced captains and crew, the hands-on curriculum will be taught in the classroom, aboard commercial fishing vessels in south Puget Sound, and in the historic Ancich Netshed on Gig Harbor’s waterfront. “I’m looking forward to sharing my commercial fishing experience with program participants and to introducing a younger generation to purse seining,” instructor Gregg Lovrovich said. “For me, well, I can’t imagine earning my livelihood in any other way.” >click to read< and more info! 20:22
