Three fishermen forced into life raft as trawler starts sinking

RNLI teams from Exmouth and Torbay carried out a joint rescue mission after three fishermen found themselves in peril when their trawler began sinking. At 9.32pm last night, Tuesday, April 16, HM Coastguard requested the launch of both the Exmouth and Torbay RNLI lifeboats, having received an urgent mayday call. The brevity of the desperate plea was spine-chilling as the message simply stated: “fishing vessel sinking”. Fishermen Rescue Man Who Fell Overboard in Torbay

A fisherman out of Torbay is OK after he fell into the rolling waters off Tappers Cove. It was a cold, rainy, and blustery day in Torbay, and the waves crashing into the wharf at Tappers Cove were intimidating—but not enough to keep away local commercial fisherman Wayne Bradbury. According to the Torbay Volunteer Fire Department, Bradbury has a fishing vessel tied on just outside Tappers Cove. He was concerned the vessel was taking on water, and decided to go check it out for himself, heading out in a small aluminum fishing boat. >click to read<18:29

Long may your big jib draw, Torbay fishermen

A new, and long-awaited, jib crane is taking a load off fishermen in Torbay. “It means the world to me. No more strain on my back,” says John Waterman, who frequently hauls up boxes of cod weighing 150 pounds. The new piece of equipment comes courtesy of Paradise-based Steelfab Industries, which is lending the $50,000 crane to the fishermen for the foreseeable future. “We had a jib crane that we weren’t using at the time, so we put two and two together,” said Noel George, who is with the company. click here to read the story 20:37
