The hit National Geographic reality series “Wicked Tuna” is going to close out its seventh season with its 100th episode Sunday night. When producers first came to Gloucester back in 2011, none of the captains realized what they were in for. Even Capt. Dave Marciano of Beverly, who fishes out of Gloucester, admitted then that he didn’t think anything would come of it. ‘Wicked Tuna’ captain schools U.S Senate candidate Geoff Diehl on fishing issues
Diehl, who rolled into town in a gigantic recreational vehicle plastered with his image and campaign slogans, had a bunch of meet-and-greets — the last with Capt. Dave Marciano of “Wicked Tuna” fame. Diehl (and his campaign film crew) met with Marciano on the captain’s newest boat, Falcon, which is moored at the Pier 7 Marina, for a celebrity photo op and a quick tutorial on the state of commercial fishing in America’s oldest seaport.,,, As Diehl sat in the captain’s chair in the pilot house, Marciano just unloaded on sectors, catch shares, the permitting process, the council system and just about everything else involved with current fishery management practices. New ‘Wicked Tuna’ season starts Sunday!
National Geographic Channel launches its seventh season of “Wicked Tuna” this Sunday, March 11, at 9 p.m., with an extended 90-minute episode. The new season finds the captains in need of redemption. Beverly resident Capt. Dave Marciano of the Hard Merchandise is out to turn things around after a disappointing season in Gloucester last year, in which he caught only five fish. Rye Harbor will never be the same without Kohlhase
David Kohlhase Jr. grew up fishing out of Rye Harbor, “had that salt in his veins”, and was “one of those guys everyone loves to be around”, said his friend and fishing partner Tyler McLaughlin. Kohlhase, 18, died early Wednesday morning from injuries suffered in a snow tubing accident at Sunday River in Maine. East Kingston’s Jim and Jeanne Moser stood in front of President Donald Trump in the White House’s East Room Thursday with a photo of their son Adam. Trump reached out, placing his hand on Adam’s face. What It’s Really Like on a Wicked Tuna Fishing Boat
If you add it all up, the days and nights on the water, Captain TJ Ott has probably spent most of his 37 years on a boat. The captain of the 39-foot Hot Tuna is a bear of a man with a scraggly beard who loves the Grateful Dead, and he’ll be the first one to tell you without equivocation that his life as a commercial fisherman is a profession, but also a kind of addiction. Wicked Tuna draws out tourists
Henry and Cheryl Klemmer of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, traveled nearly 1,200 miles to Gloucester this week with a dream of meeting a “Wicked Tuna” captain. They didn’t meet one. They met five.
“Oh gosh, it really brought a personal connection to the show,” said Henry Klemmer. “It brought reality into the living room.” The seventh season of the National Geographic Channel’s hit series is currently filming in Gloucester, and will air in 2018. Meanwhile, the fourth season of the spinoff “Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks” premieres Sunday at 10 p.m.. That show includes two captains from the original series, T.J. Capt. Dave Carraro of the FV-Tuna.com said he knew his team of fishermen was the New England Patriots of the fleet going into season six of “Wicked Tuna” because he had won the competition three out of the last five seasons. Now in episode 12, the Gloucester captain is again at the top of the leader board along with Capt. Tyler McLaughlin of the Rye, New Hampshire-based Pinwheel.

An Interview with Captain Dave Marciano: Gloucester fishing comes into focus on new season of ‘Wicked Tuna’
The captains of Wicked Tuna, Nat Geo’s top-rated reality series, return for a sixth season Sunday, March 12 at 9 p.m. The cutthroat show about angling off the coast of Gloucester, Massachusetts, pits captains and their boats against each other in a no-holds-barred search for the largest tuna. And that’s largest in terms of size and profits. Among the returning captains are Tyler McLaughlin of the Pinwheel, Dave Marciano of the Hard Merchandise, TJ Ott of the Hot Tuna, Paul Hebert of the Wicked Pissah and Dave Carraro of the FV-Tuna.com. Sunday Night: Rockporter joins sixth season of ‘Wicked Tuna’
The intense work of Gloucester’s now famed blue-fin fishermen will be showcased again when the international hit television show “Wicked Tuna,” kicks off its sixth season Sunday night on the National Geographic channel. Gloucester Capt. Dave Carraro of the FV-Tuna.com once again won the competition last season, but just barely, with a total catch value of $104,785. Just $174 behind was Capt. Paul Hebert, also of Gloucester, who at one time was part of Carraro’s crew. So. You wanna be a “Wicked Tuna” Fisherman, eh? Stranded in Mattapoisett
Anthony Rhodes has had a rough week. The 22-year-old West Virginian was left stranded in Mattapoisett with $60 to his name, a skateboard and a 31-foot fishing boat taking on water. After watching “Wicked Tuna,” a National Geographic Channel show about Gloucester blue fin fishermen, Rhodes knew that’s what he wanted to do. Bringing his uncle, a mechanic, with him, and using funds from an accident insurance settlement, Rhodes came to Massachusetts in search of a boat. He found a reasonably priced 1972 fishing boat in good condition, got his commercial fishing license and had Brownell Systems tow the boat to Mattapoisett. Then things started to tank. Rhodes said small amounts of money began to disappear, but he assumed his uncle, who he didn’t want to name, may have sent some of it home to his family. Not knowing how to use the bilge pumps, the boat began taking on water, something was draining the batteries and the starters weren’t working. “We have no idea about boats,” admitted Rhodes. Fishing Rod-builder Jay Johnstone adds a unique quality to fishing of all kinds
Jay Johnstone is a craftsman, an artist in a unique genre. Feathers are his medium, a fishing rod his canvas. Johnstone is a fishing-rod builder. “Everything from trout to tuna,” he said. But they’re not just any rod with fancy wrappings. His are each adorned with feathered bases where the rod enters the handle. His productions are not only aesthetic, they’re useful – and catching on as quickly and efficiently as they catch fish. Some anglers view fishing rods as simply tools, “sticks” to use as means to an end. At the other end of the boat, however, are those of us for whom a favorite rod is a friend, a close companion bonded by every fish it lands. Ocean City Boat Featured In ‘Wicked Tuna’ Outer Banks Season Premiere Monday
The National Geographic Channel’s fishing reality show returns for a new season on Monday and will feature the long-awaited debut of the popular Ocean City-based “Foolish Pleasures” and its colorful Captain Dale Lisi and his crew of characters. Some Wounded Warrior’s will celebrate Independence Day fishing with Dave Marciano on the Yankee Freedom
What better way to celebrate Independence Day than to honor some of the veterans who fought to sustain the nation’s freedoms with a full day of fishing? Gloucester fisherman and “Wicked Tuna” cast member Dave Marciano, and a host of generous associates such as Tom Orrell of the Yankee Fleet charter fishing service, are marshaling forces to sponsor a free Fourth of July fishing trip for an invited group of military veterans assembled through the Wounded Warrior Project. “Obviously with the success of the show, my life is pretty amazing now and I get to do a lot of incredible things,” Marciano said Friday afternoon. “But of all the things I get to do, this is one of the most important for me. The veterans are just so appreciative. ‘Wicked Tuna’ captains captivate, spur laughs, dollars for Friends of Rollo charity event in San Diego
The first thing you notice when boat captains Dave Carraro, Dave Marciano and Paul Hebert of the popular TV show “Wicked Tuna” hang out: They actually might … gasp … like each other. When the captains sat down for a kickoff event Monday at Bali Hai on Shelter Island for “Tuna Wars II,” though, the good-natured jabs and laughs flow. Carraro, the most consistently successful captain on the show, faux-gloated about his well-appointed boat, FV-Tuna.com. Heber, who guides the underdog Wicked Pissah, pounced: “You don’t like saltwater in the hot tub. A man whose fishing job was featured on the reality television show “Wicked Tuna” while he was receiving government disability benefits was sentenced on Wednesday to spend four years on probation and pay a $5,000 fine. Paul Hebert, of Gloucester, Massachusetts, must also pay more than $53,600 in restitution as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. Hebert, 51, used to live in Barre. He was charged last summer with accepting more than $44,000 in Social Security and Medicaid disability benefits between 2010 and 2013. He pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges of Social Security and Medicaid fraud and was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Burlington. “It is outrageous that Paul Hebert pretended to be disabled and poor in order to collect Medicaid benefits while at the same time starring as a captain of a fishing boat in a national TV reality show,” HHS Boston special agent in charge Phillip M. A man featured on the reality television show ‘‘Wicked Tuna’’ is scheduled to be sentenced in Vermont on charges he received government disability benefits while he was fishing on the show. Paul Hebert, of Gloucester, Massachusetts, is due in federal court in Burlington on Wednesday. He pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges of Social Security and Medicaid fraud. As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Hebert agreed to pay more than $53,600 in restitution. Attorneys are recommending probation. Hebert’s attorney has said he filed for the benefits before he got the job on ‘‘Wicked Tuna.’’ The National Geographic Channel show follows several Gloucester-based boats that try to land bluefin tuna, which can weigh hundreds of pounds and fetch tens of thousands of dollars. link 14:44

“Like every season, everybody wants to be the top boat for multiple reasons—one being bragging rights and the next making the most money,” Captain Dave said. “And we have been on the top almost every season… it’s pretty stressful for us though. We have to be at the top of your game everyday and try to do the best we can. It’s very stressful overall but we enjoy it, we love being out there—we love fishing. NatGeo renews ‘Wicked Tuna’ as Season Five closes
As the fifth season of the hit National Geographic Channel series “Wicked Tuna” comes to a climax Monday, May 16, with the finale, NatGeo announced that the show will continue with a sixth season. The Gloucester-based reality television series, which has fans all over the world, will begin filming this summer for another season of tension on the high seas as the captains compete to bring in the most lucrative hauls of the gigantic bluefin tuna. ‘Wicked Tuna’ captain Jessie Anderson quits Wicked Tuna reality show
Fishing captain Myjestic “Jessie” Anderson, part of the all-women crew on the National Geographic Channel’s hit documentary series, Wicked Tuna – Outer Banks, will not be on the reality show when it airs this summer. Anderson decided to focus on the charter fishing business aboard her boat Carolina Girl out of Hatteras Harbor, she said Wednesday. “I do better fishing on my own,” she said. ‘Wicked Tuna’ Star Captain Delivers Beatdown … Gets Arrested
One of the captains from “Wicked Tuna” got busted in port for smashing a guy’s face. Captain Tyler McLaughlin was charged this week for misdemeanor assault … according to the Perquimans County Sheriff’s Dept. in North Carolina. Cops say McLaughlin got into it with another fisherman last month near the docks. The Nat Geo star allegedly put the guy in a choke hold and punched him in the eye multiple times. We’re told the victim suffered a broken nose and 2 black eyes. McLaughlin bounced before cops arrived. Weeks later, McLaughlin turned himself in to cops, got booked but was immediately released on a $10,000 bond. We reached out to McLaughlin and Nat Geo … no reply at all. TMZ link 16:02

Dave Marciano, captain of the F/V Hard Merchandise vessel on Nat Geo’s Wicked Tuna, lives a life on the open sea, pulling in a variety of fish to make a decent living. The star of the reality series, and its offshoot Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks, is a native of Massachusetts, but his immediate family members were actually not part of the fishing industry.
