Holtec says it won’t dump radioactive water in Cape Cod Bay in 2022
The company in charge of decommissioning Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station announced Monday that it would not discharge radioactive water into Cape Cod Bay in 2022. “We wanted to share that in the near term the decision at Pilgrim has been made that the processed water will remain on site, safely stored, and that we will not discharge any processed water in 2022 while this evaluation (of alternative disposal options) is undertaken,”,,, The email said the company appreciated and understood the public’s questions and concerns, and “remain committed to an open, transparent process on the decommissioning of Pilgrim Station focused on the health and safety of the public, the environment, and on-site personnel.” >click to read< 11:19

Richard Canastra a member of the Massachusetts Governor’s Seaport Advisory Council, the New Bedford Economic Development Council, and the New Bedford Council on Commercial Fishing tells me U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, both Democrats, have done zilch on a range of important issues critical to the industry, from funding of mandatory government monitoring to outdated data used to determine the strength of fishing stocks. Federal Delegation ‘Solidly Behind’ New Bedford in Fishing Fight
Prior to a town hall-style meeting in New Bedford on Saturday, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren quietly gathered with fellow senator Ed Markey and Congressman William Keating in the Wharfinger Building on Pier 3. Inside, the three legislators sat for more than an hour, listening to representatives of the fishing community relay their present and future concerns facing the industry. About 80 fishermen out of New Bedford have been unable to fish or lease their quotas since NOAA shut down Sector IX in November. The shutdown remains in effect until the feds can estimate how much quota convicted “Codfather” Carlos Rafael depleted in his overfishing scheme. Editorial: Fishery aid package should be among top Markey priorities
To some, the special election victory by Congressman Ed Markey Tuesday leaves Gloucester and Massachusetts fishermen without a definitive voice in the U.S. Senate. Just 3 1/2 years removed from the passing of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy — a truly passionate voice for the state’s and the nation’s fishermen — Elizabeth Warren’s victory over forceful fisheries advocate Scott Brown, and now Markey’s triumph and filling of the seat held by new Secretary of State John Kerry have created a Senate delegation in which fisheries may not have the priority they have had in the past. Well-heeled enviros have Markey’s ear
Ed Markey, U.S. Rep. and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate, is running pop-up ads all over YouTube, one of which tells us that “the special interests are attacking” the poor man. I think I know at least one special interest that is not: the environmentalists who have infiltrated NOAA and taken over fisheries management, with disastrous results in the Northeast. I say this because the primary architect of catch shares and sector management, Monica Medina, was one of the hosts of a Markey fundraiser in Washington scheduled to be held last evening. continued
