Alaska, West Coast to receive fishery disaster recovery funds, unclear when
The president signed a bill this month that directs recovery funds to fisheries disasters on the West Coast, including in Alaska, but it’s still unclear how the limited funds will be distributed. In a letter to the U.S. Senate in January, senators wrote that they saw a $150 million need in Alaska following the 2016 pink salmon season disaster in the Gulf. Shaheen, Ayotte Welcome Distribution of Fishery Disaster Funds to New Hampshire Fishing Industry
U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) today welcomed an announcement by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that New Hampshire will be receiving nearly $1 million in direct federal fishery disaster assistance by Friday. Read more here 17:11

Relief funds for last summer’s King salmon fisheries disasters on the Kuskokwim and Yukon Rivers has taken one step closer to reaching fishermen in the region.
The bill allocates $150 million for fisheries disasters in Alaska, as well as in New England and Mississippi. Senator Lisa Murkowski says it is uncertain how the money would be split. “That $150 million would be divided up based on recommendations from the state’s to NOAA,” Murkowski says. “So, that is yet to be determined.” listen@kyuk

Funds have been included in the Senate Appropriations bill. The bill passed out of the Senate’s Commerce, Justice and Science Subcommittee Tuesday and through the Appropriations Committee today.
