Fisherman out $20K in forfeited crab and fines over illegal fishing
A fisherman from New World Island has to pay thousands in fines and was made to forfeit tens of thousands of dollars worth of crab for violating fishery regulations. Chesley Coish of Hillgrade was convicted on two counts of fishing in an area not listed on his crab licence — once in 2012, another in 2013. Coish was fined $4,000 for both convictions. He was also ordered to forfeit over 8,000 pounds of crab worth $16,333. Until the fines are paid, Coish will be unable to transfer his licence. Click here 10:09
Coast Guard seizes red snapper from commercial shrimp vessel in South Texas
At approximately 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, the Heron was on a routine patrol when they conducted a law enforcement boarding on the fishing boat Capt. Wallace B and discovered the illegal catch. Currently, the red snapper fishery in federal waters is only by commercial fishing vessels with reef fish permits with an individual fishing quota for red snapper. Snow crab fishermen fined $7K
Three snow crab fishermen in the province have been fined a total of $7,000. According to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Carman Frampton of Burin was charged with having too many crab pots set, failing to take aboard an observer and using gear that’s not part of a licence. Virginia Marine Police arrest two accused of poaching thousands of protected fish
Marine police have had numerous complaints about poaching in the southern branch of the Elizabeth River over the last two weeks, according to Marine Police Officer Bill Thompson. Marine police had found many untended, illegal and hidden nets that had trapped and killed between 4,000 and 5,000 pounds of protected fish species in that waterway recently. Two Crisfield Watermen charged with oyster violations
Using the Maritime Law Enforcement Information Network system of cameras and radar, two officers monitored Paul Franklin Tyler III, 29, and Jeffrey Alan Cuff Jr., 31, at 10 a.m. as they dredged for wild oysters in the buffer zone surrounding the Somerset Oyster Sanctuary near Tangier Sound, police said. Prince Rupert Skipper Fined $3,000 and Forfeits Chinook Catch Worth Almost $11,000
A Prince Rupert commercial fisherman has been fined $3,000 after pleading guilty in Prince Rupert Provincial Court to a serious. In addition to the fine, Michael Andrew Bullock was ordered to forfeit his landed catch of chinook salmon, valued at $10,791. On June 26, 2014, Mr. Bullock, while skippering the vessel HOPEFULL, contravened the conditions of his licence by failing to have his catch validated by an observer when off-loading from the Area F troll fishery. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries – Seven accused of taking oysters illegally
Seven men were ticketed over the past month for taking oysters from public waters near Dularge while the harvesting season is closed, authorities said. Hard headed! Banned Kent waterman charged with new violations
A Kent County waterman whose license was revoked earlier this year was charged Tuesday, Dec. 2, by for violating his revocation by fishing for striped bass. NRP identified the man as Benjamin L. Reihl, 27, of Chestertown. According to NRP, Reihl was seen on successive days working on a commercial boat in the waters off Queen Anne’s County by NRP officers on routine patrol. A FISHERMAN has begged a Maroochydore District Court judge to jail him rather than impose a massive fine. Peter John Grennell could be fined up to $110,000 for the commercial fishing charge he faces. New charges in Lower Keys spiny lobster case – All are accused of violating the Lacey Act
Fishermen Charles and Tyson Veach and their company, Super Grouper Inc. of Stock Island and their company, Super Grouper Inc. of Stock Island, have been additionally charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office with selling illegally caught lobster on three dates in August, according to court documents. Kent Island fishing boat captains charged
Tyrone Antone Meredith, 53, of Stevensville, and Herlen Vernon Lynch, 63, of Dover, Delaware, were charged Sept. 4 with operating as an unlicensed commercial fishing guide, failing to obtain federal licenses to operate a vessel, failing to have a license on board while charter fishing and using a consolidated sport license on a boat hired for recreational fishing, Maryland Natural Resources Police said. Owners of Seized Togiak Bay Fishing Vessels Fined Nearly $90K
The owners of six fishing vessels seized in Togiak Bay for illegal salmon fishing this month have been fined a total of almost $90,000, with Alaska Wildlife Troopers seizing nearly 35,000 pounds of fish.
