Vessel Review: F/V Ingeborg Arntsen – Norwegian fishing family acquires hybrid longliner/netter

Danish shipbuilder Vestværftet recently handed over a new longliner/gillnetter to Nordsten, a company owned by brothers Jack-Allan and Hans-Michael Arntsen of Lofoten in northern Norway. Named F/V Ingeborg Arntsen after their mother, the newbuild replaces the brothers’ current boat F/V Tommy Junior, which was built in 1991 and had been in operation with Nordsten since 2007 until recently being sold to a sister company also owned by the family. The Arntsens decided to purchase a new boat upon realising the earlier Tommy Junior had reached its limits in terms of providing safe living and working conditions for crews. With a new boat offering improvements in such conditions, the brothers believed it would be possible to land catches of even higher quality. First Damen Shrimp Trawler 2607 Completes Sea Trials

Recently, the first in series Damen Shrimp Trawler 2607 successfully completed its sea trials in the Port of Hamriya, UAE. Damen has designed the new vessel for the next generation of (sub) tropical shrimp fishing. The design aims at the provision of a straightforward, no-nonsense platform, easy to operate and with minimal maintenance requirements. The Shrimp Trawler 2607 has an extremely low fuel consumption resulting in lower fuel costs and reduced emissions. Damen set about the development of the Shrimp Trawler as a solution for the growing market interest in fuel efficient vessels. Damen is specialised in the designing of high-pull vessels with limited propulsion power, and therefore, lower fuel consumption. Other examples of this include the recently delivered beam trawlers for Belgium and famous Damen Tugs. Baffin Fisheries’ new ship stranded in Athens after engine fails on maiden voyage

Crew members aboard Baffin Fisheries’ Inuksuk II have spent more than 14 days docked in Athens, Greece after an engine failure stalled the fishing vessel on its first voyage. “We are very disappointed. This was entirely unexpected,” Baffin Fisheries CEO Chris Flanagan said in an interview. “We knew there would be some break-in period and glitches with a brand-new vessel. Canada’s largest fishing vessel delivered

Baffin Fisheries has taken delivery of new 80-metre trawler F/V Inuksuk II, the largest fishing vessel under the Canadian flag, which is scheduled to soon start operating on shrimp and Greenland halibut (turbot) for its Inuit owners. Inuksuk II has been built to a Skipsteknisk ST-119 design with an 80-metre overall length, a beam of 18 metres and a 2700 cubic metre fishroom capacity for 1320 tonnes of Greenland halibut or 930 tonnes of shrimp. Fishing Vessel Eternal Promise – Scotland’s Whitelink Seafoods welcomes new scalloper to coastal fleet

Macduff Shipyards of Scotland recently handed over a new scallop fishing vessel ordered by local owner Whitelink Seafoods for year-round operation around the coastal waters of the UK. Designed by Macduff Ship Design, Eternal Promise measures 19.98 by 7.4 metres (65.66 by 24 feet) and has space for seven crewmembers. It is the second vessel built by Macduff Shipyards for Whitelink after an earlier vessel handed over in 2019. Norwegian fisherman’s new Cleopatra 36

Kjøllefjord skipper owner Daniel Lauritzen has taken delivery of a new Cleopatra 36 from Icelandic boatbuilder Trefjar. F/V Tinder is a standard Cleopatra 36 measuring 10.99 metres and with a 3.80-metre beam, and is rigged for longlining and gillnetting, and also ready for fishing king crab part of the year. New netter/longliner F/V Ingeborg Arntsen, built by Vestværft for Lofoten brothers Jack-Allan and Hans-Michael Arntsen, represents a serious step up over their older vessel in terms of both operational efficiency and the living and working conditions on board. Ingeborg Arntsen has a 735kW MAN D2862LE447 main engine, and auxiliary engines are also from MAN. All engines are equipped with SCR systems meeting IMO Tier III requirements. F/V Frøyanes: Ice-Capable Trawler/Crabber for Norwegian Barents Sea Fishing Company

Norwegian fishing company Ervik Havfiske recently took delivery of a new shrimp trawler built to a design by naval architecture firm Marin Teknikk. The steel-hulled F/V Frøyanes is outfitted as a triple-rig trawler that can also be utilised for catching snow crab in the Norwegian and Barents Seas. “Ervik Havfiske wanted a combination of shrimp trawling and crab catching capability,” Thomas Edvard Gjerde, Sales Manager Fish and Aqua at Marin Teknikk, told Baird Maritime. “The owner also wanted a vessel with a moonpool, which is a common feature on the longliners in its fleet.” The array of fishing equipment on Frøyanes includes conventional trawls and a large moonpool through which crab pots can be hauled on board. Moonpools that have proven effective in longliners are also confirmed to be useful in working with crabs, particularly in ensuring their gentle handling and protection from the elements for better catch quality. Pushing Technology Boundaries

Fishing vessel Aksel Johan has it all – battery hybrid propulsion, heat recovery, peak shaving, and load balancing on the engine, hull and propeller, along with exhaust gas cleaning – plus it’s the first fishing vessel to use a thermoelectric system to harness heat from the exhaust in a world first. Built for Senjahopen company Berg Fisk AS, Aksel Johan is some months behind schedule and should have been delivered in October last year – but delays at the Baltic yard where the hull was fabricated, due to the war in Ukraine resulting in a shortage of manpower, meant that the construction has been challenging. Irish Fishing Family to Welcome New Trawler

Irish fisherman Eric Murphy and his family will soon welcome a new trawler into their fleet. Built locally by Mooney Boats to a design by Vestværftet of Denmark, Eilean Croineis a sister vessel of Sparkling Star, which was completed and delivered to another owner in 2023. Falklands Trawler Launched In Marín

The Nodosa Shipyard at Marín in the Galician region of Spain has floated off one of the three large factory vessels it has under construction. The 85-metre F/V Argos Berbés is being built for the Orion Fishing Company, a joint venture between Vigo-based Armadora Pereira and the Argos Group in the Falklands. Triple-Rigger for Iceland on Trial at Turkish Builder

Nautic-designed triple-rigger Sigurbjörg is undergoing trials at the Celiktrans shipyard in Turkey, and it’s soon expected to be embarking on the delivery trip to Iceland.The new fresher trawler is outfitted with four Ibercisa trawl winches, enabling it to tow three trawls. The main engine has a 1795kW output, derated from 2100kW, powering a 3800mm diameter propeller to provide a 45 tonne bollard pull. Vessel Review: Daystar – North Sea Prawn Trawler Delivered to Scottish Owner

UK boatbuilder Parkol Marine Engineering has handed over a new trawler to fishing boat owner and skipper Stephen West based in Fraserburgh on Scotland’s east coast. The 25.09- by eight-metre Daystar replaces an earlier, similarly named but slightly smaller Parkol-built trawler in the owner’s fleet. Vessel Review: F/V ERIN BRUCE II – Wanchese Argentina adds Scallop Trawler to the Fleet

Wanchese Argentina, a subsidiary of Cooke Seafood USA’s Wanchese Fish Company, took delivery of a new scallop trawler built by Armon Shipyard of Spain at its recently acquired Astilleros Ria de Vigo facilities. F/V Erin Bruce II will be used for year-round trawling and processing of Patagonian scallops off Argentina primarily for export to Europe and North America. Cooke Seafood USA said it is the biggest newbuild factory trawler to be operated in Argentina and the first to be constructed specifically for the domestic scallop fishery. Armón Delivers Ultra – Modern Tuna Vessel

The Mexican shipowner Grupomar, owned by the well-known Mexican-Spanish businessman Antonio Suárez Gutiérrez, took delivery at the end of March of the most modern tuna vessel in the Americas. Astilleros Armón built María de Jesús at its facilities in Gijón, Asturias. María de Jesús is a substantial vessel, with a 79.23 metre (259′) overall length and a beam of 13.65 meters (44.7′). New Concept Design Provides Comfort And Economy

There’s nothing like a returning customer – and this isn’t the first time that George Hepburn and his partners have been to Macduff for a new trawler, as the previous Celestial Dawn BF-109 came from the same yard back in 2000. The new Celestial Dawn, which will be fishing from Peterhead primarily for prawns on North Sea grounds, is the first of three sister vessels being built to the same entirely new design developed by Macduff Ship Design and Macduff Shipyards.
