Thomas O’Malley, of Marshfield, joins Mark Alliegro in race to unseat U.S. Rep. William Keating
“There’s a lack of common sense and nothing going on in Washington,” O’Malley said Monday about what prompted him to launch a campaign for Congress. “I want to bring common sense back to government.” Creating jobs in the district, easing government rules and regulations imposed on fishermen, stopping illegal immigration and strengthening the military to be “second to none” are major issues that should be addressed, O’Malley said. “He’s probably a nice man,” O’Malley said about Keating. “But I don’t think he’s done enough for the middle class and fishermen. The Supreme Court on Wednesday appeared sympathetic to a Florida fisherman who says the government went overboard in prosecuting him for throwing undersized grouper off his boat. “What kind of a mad prosecutor would try to send this guy up for 20 years,” Scalia asked Justice Department attorney Roman Martinez. “You make him sound like a mob boss or something,” Chief Justice John Roberts said as laughter erupted in the court. Former Minerals Management Service director, Elizabeth Birnbaum,: US ‘on a course to repeat’ Gulf oil spill

Salazar departure leaves ‘green’ posts vacant
With Interior Secretary Ken Salazar’s announcement Wednesday that he intends to resign, the Obama administration finds itself in exactly the same place it was four years ago: looking to fill the three most important environmental posts in the federal government. Interior Dept., EPA, NOAA. Donald Boesch, who heads the University of Maryland’s Center for Environmental Science and served on Obama’s 2010 oil spill commission, has the support of several key Maryland politicians to replace Jane Lubchenco.
