UPDATED: Searchers recover 11 more bodies – Hopes fade for 50 fishermen missing in freezing Bering Sea
More than 50 fishermen are still missing after their ship sank amid high waves in the freezing waters of the western Bering Sea on Monday, South Korean officials say. Seven crew members were rescued and one body has been recovered, but weather and water conditions complicated the search for the others, an official from the South Korean fisheries and oceans ministry said. Newport Fishermen’s Wives: Blazer sinking highlights need for Coast Guard rescue helicopter

The General Pershing – Monterey historic boat could get new purpose
The Siino family has contributed a lot to the history of Monterey and their latest idea could give back even more. They said this week they are aiming to turn the largest boat Sicilian-born Angelo Siino, one of Monterey’s most famous shipbuilders, ever crafted into an educational tool. NOAA imposes new rules to protect Bluefin Tuna
New restrictions are being placed on fishermen in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Atlantic coast to protect the prized bluefin tuna species from being overfished. On Monday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced the rules for commercial fishing vessels. The rules take effect in January. Read the rest here 11:57
American Eel Is in Danger of Extinction
The American eel has only recently become a sought-after fish, since the 2011 tsunami in Japan wiped out eel stocks and Europe banned eel exports a year later. “We saw a big shift from the European eel to the American eel to meet demand in Asia,” says postdoctoral researcher David Jacoby of the Zoological Society of London, who was involved in the American eel assessment. “This set off alarm bells during our assessment.” Red the rest here 11:18
