Coos Bay – Fishing Vessel runs aground after losing power
Around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, a 28-foot commercial fishing vessel known as the lost power on its way out to sea and ran aground at low tide on the North Spit. After the vessel lost power it drifted into a rocky area of the North Spit known as the Cribs Jetty. The tide going out caused the vessel take significant hull damage and become stuck. “The vessel apparently lost power and drifted up onto the rocks where it became lodged on the Cribs Jetty. Coast Guard medevacs injured fisherman 13 miles west of Grays Harbor
The Coast Guard medically evacuated an injured fisherman 13 miles west of the Grays Harbor, Washington, entrance, Monday morning. A Coast Guard boat crew aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Station Grays Harbor met up with with the commercial fishing vessel Myrna Lynn to transfer the 50-year-old injured fisherman to shore, and get him treated by emergency medical services for a severe hand injury and shock. Watchstanders at Sector Columbia River received the injury report via VHF-FM radio at 8:15 a.m., and directed the launch of the boat crew. Coast Guard searches for fisherman overboard 100 miles south of Cameron, Louisiana
The Coast Guard is searching for a 55 year-old man who reportedly fell overboard approximately 100 miles south of Cameron, Louisiana, Monday morning. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a communications relay from the captain of the fishing vessel Captain Edwin at approximately 3 a.m. reporting that a crewmember had fallen overboard off a nearby fishing vessel, the Captain Kent, while it was at anchor. Bristol Bay – How to avoid a Coast Guard ticket this season
As Bristol Bay fishermen put in long hours preparing their boats for another salmon season, the Coast Guard is just as busy making sure those vessels come home safely. “We put in 10-, 12-, 14-hour days some days trying to go as long and hard as we can,” said Russell Hazlett, a commerical fishing vessel examiner with the Coast Guard in Anchorage. “We’re only there for a short amount of time and have a small window to get it all done.” This month, Coast Guard crews will check flares, charts, navigational signals, fire extinguishers, emergency position-indicating beacons and survival suits on up to 450 boats across Bristol Bay at no charge. Coast Guard rescues fisherman before vessel sank off Harbor, Ore.
Coast Guard boat crews rescued a fisherman from his vessel before it sank about two and a half miles west of the Chetco River entrance, Wednesday. One of the two boat crews from Coast Guard Station Chetco River removed the fisherman from the vessel and safely transported him back to shore after dewatering attempts failed. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector North Bend and at the station were first notified around 10 a.m. when the fisherman requested assistance over VHF channel 16. Coast Guard Suspends Search For Two People Missing After Plane Crash
The U.S. Coast Guard and East Hampton Town Police have announced that the search for the Piper Navajo and its two missing occupants has been suspended due to “rapidly detiorating sea conditions.”,,, The cause of the crash is still under investigation but many have commented on the strong thunderstorm that had swept across the South Fork at almost the same time as the crash. The captain and crew of the Montauk-based fishing boat Caitlin & Mairead, which was one of the first vessels on the scene of the crash yesterday, said that the strong squall had blown through right before reports of the crash. “The weather was awful savage,” said David Aripotch, the captain and owner of the Caitlin & Mairead. “There wasn’t a lot of wind, but there was a lot of rain and lightning, a lot of lightning. Coast Guard helicopter crew medevacs 13yo from Fishing Vessel in Chenega
A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, forward deployed to Cordova, medevaced a 13-year-old male from Chenega, Alaska, Saturday. The Jayhawk helicopter crew transported the 13-year-old to Anchorage and transferred him to awaiting medical personnel. Coast Guard Sector Anchorage watchstanders received notification from the crew of the Golden Pacific, a 58-foot fishing vessel, who reported that the teen was suffering symptoms of a seizure 30 minutes after falling 18 feet. An EMT on board the Golden Pacific assessed the teen and requested higher care. A flight surgeon for the 17th Coast Guard District agreed and recommended a medevac. >click to read<15:51
Sinking fishing boat salvaged at Ventura Harbor
Crews salvaged a commercial fishing boat that was sinking at Ventura Harbor early Saturday. The Ventura Harbor Patrol was notified at 2:10 a.m. about a boat that had started sinking in its slip at the Ventura Harbor Village Marina, 1583 Spinnaker Drive. Patrol officers responded and requested assistance from the city of Ventura Fire Department, the Coast Guard and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. An oil containment boom was deployed around the vessel to minimize the spread of its 1,300 gallons of diesel fuel. >click to read<19:46
Somebody keeps stealing the Coast Guard’s bells and gongs in Maine
Expensive brass gongs and bells are being stolen from navigational buoys off the coast of Maine, and the Coast Guard is asking for help to track down whoever is pilfering them. The sounding devices are used by ships and sailors to navigate, especially in low-visibility conditions. The sounding devices are attached to buoys and “play a vital role in the safe passage of ships and mariners,” the Coast Guard said in a release. Coast Guard crews rescued three fishermen Friday after their fishing vessel sank 45 miles east of Myrtle Beach. Coast Guard confirms fisherman found by divers inside vessel in Willapa Bay
Coast Guard personnel confirm the missing fisherman was found by divers inside the sunken vessel, the Kelli J, prior to it being refloated by contractors in Willapa Bay, Friday. Pacific County Sheriff’s Office personnel transported the fisherman to a local funeral home that evening. The vessel is being taken to the Nachotta marina with the owner’s insurance company coordinating the remaining salvage efforts. The Kelli J was originally reported missing on Saturday, May 19, which sparked search and rescue efforts that extended into Monday when the search was suspended. Coast Guard personnel continue to monitor the response to the report of the overdue fishing vessel Kelli J after a boat crew contracted through the vessel owner’s insurance company located a large unknown object in the area of a previously sighted pollution and debris in the water of Willapa Bay, Tuesday. Global Diving and Salvage personnel have been contracted by the insurance company to dive on and identify the object Wednesday, and assess what actions can be taken for potential salvage. Around 3:35 p.m. on Saturday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a report that the operator of the Kelli J was overdue from a fishing trip. Boats and ships near Prince William Sound, the Coast Guard can’t hear you
If you’re on the waters of Prince William Sound, you’ll have to be extra cautious. That’s because if you run into trouble, depending on where you are, the Coast Guard says they may not hear your distress signal. The Coast Guard announced Friday afternoon that it can’t hear distress VHF transmissions until vessels reach Port Wells in Prince William Sound, specifically on VHF-FM channel 16. Coast guard, DFO on scene after lobster boat ramming off Ecum Secum
Its hull repaired from the damage sustained when it was rammed by a rival fishing crew, the Joint Account floated at one of Ecum Secum’s wharves on Thursday. According to its owner, Tanya Chambers, each captain she has tried to hire over the past two days to fish her licence has backed out. “I’ve had three people say they were willing to take my vessel and be its sub-operator,” said Chambers. “They have all got numerous threatening phone calls that if they take my vessel or talk to Austin (Tanya’s husband) or Terrence (Tanya’s son), they will be killed.”>click to read<09:04
Coast Guard responds to report of collision between a fishing vessel and a tanker
The Coast Guard Sector New York is responding to a report of a collision at sea Saturday evening, involving the loaded tankship Tofteviken and the commercial fishing vessel Polaris. The collision allegedly occurred nearly 30 miles southeast of Bridgehampton, New York. The Tofteviken was transiting to New York while the Polaris was transiting back to its homeport in Massachusetts after a night of fishing. The Polaris, an 84-foot steel vessel built in 2007, suffered damage to its bow and outrigger. There were seven people aboard at the time of collision with no report of injuries. Coast Guard Academy Mechanical Engineering cadets have been prototyping a new and improved rescue basket, which could revolutionize the way the Coast Guard conducts search and rescue missions onboard the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters. First Class Cadets Christian Breviario, Riely Brande, Benjamin Crutchfield, Nolan Richerson and Spencer Smith spent the last year working closely with the U.S. Coast Guard Research and Development Center to improve upon the current rescue basket design, after receiving input from search and rescue operators in the fleet.,, The new design, which is roomy enough for two individuals to comfortably sit in the basket, allows Coast Guard operators to shave off precious time during mass rescue situations. >click to read<10:40

The Coast Guard medevaced a 51-year-old man approximately 65 miles off Atlantic City, New Jersey, Sunday. A crew member aboard the fishing vessel Settler notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay of a 51-year-old man aboard having difficulty breathing. Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey to respond. The Coast Guard medevaced a 57-year-old man Friday from a fishing vessel 97 miles east of St. Catherines Sound. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard’s Sector Charleston Command Center received notification from a crewmember aboard the 72-foot fishing vessel Lady Helena stating a crewmember was suffering from chest pains. A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Savannah arrived on scene at 9:12 a.m., hoisted the crewmember and transported him back to the air station at 9:46 a.m. where EMS was waiting. -USCG-23:12

The Coast Guard medevaced a 66-year-old man from a 90-foot fishing boat 40 miles southwest of Fort Myers Beach, Thursday. Rescued was Alfredo Simon, 66, from Fort Myers. At 2:44 a.m. Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders received a call via VHF-FM marine band radio channel 16 reporting Simon was suffering from symptoms of a heart attack aboard the 90-foot fishing boat, Double E. A flight surgeon recommended Simon be medevaced. A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew from Station Fort Myers Beach was launched, arrived on scene and transported Simon to the station. -USCG-10:43
Coast Guard to Remove 1,500 Gallons of Fuel From Burnt Ship Currently Docked Along Eureka’s Waterfront
The Coast Guard is coordinating fuel removal and salvage operations Thursday for a fishing vessel that caught fire Wednesday near Eureka. Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Humboldt Bay pollution responders have determined the 47-foot vessel, Midori, is safe to tow to the Eureka Municipal docks, where a reported 1,500 gallons of diesel will be removed before the boat is salvaged. A Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and four-member crew were dispatched to an area about 12 miles off the Trinidad coast this morning after reports of a boat on fire were received. The Coast Guard medevaced an injured fisherman off the 44-foot fishing vessel Donnie J near the Texas City Dike, Thursday morning. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a request from a crewmember aboard the Donnie J for a medevac after the vessel’s captain was injured due to being struck in the head by gear onboard the vessel. The Donnie J had a two person crew and needed an experienced boat driver to navigate the vessel back to port. Coast Guard crews medevaced a 25-year old man from a fishing vessel 80-miles southeast of Montauk, New York, early Tuesday morning. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center received notification around 11:00 p.m., Monday from the captain of the ‘Reaper’ that a crewmember had experienced what appeared to be a seizure, and struck his head on an object when he fell. The Coast Guard aided three fishermen in distress after their 45-foot fishing vessel caught fire and was flooding near Table Bluff, Wednesday morning. A crew member of the commercial fishing vessel Advance called watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay via cell phone around 8:30 a.m., reporting an engine fire and flooding with three people on board. The Coast Guard assisted a disabled fishing vessel 40 miles east of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Sunday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay were notified at about 10:30 p.m. via VHF-FM channel 16, that the 90-foot fishing vessel Margaret Rose carrying seven people was disabled from engine failure. A Coast Guard aircrew rescued four commercial fishermen after their 54-foot fishing vessel capsized off the coast of Rockaway Beach, Sunday evening. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Sector Columbia River hoisted the four fishermen to safety and transported them to the helicopter landing pad at Station Tillamook Bay where they were transferred to local emergency medical technicians for further care and evaluation.
