Looking for contacts in America of fishermen or fisherwomen who were affected by the Gulf of Mexico spill and it’s aftermath
G’day to my American Brothers from the land Down Under.
I’m currently looking for contacts in America of fishermen or fisherwomen who were affected by the Gulf of Mexico spill and it’s aftermath. What I’m looking for is people willing to provide first hand accounts about the impact the spill had on your businesses, your fishery, The environment, Local communities and Local Economies.
The reason I ask is because I am planning to lodge a stakeholder submission to our local Council here in Port Lincoln, South Australia.
Norwegian based Statoil/Equinor are pressing ahead to deep water drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight, just to give you an idea The GAB is the waterway which is on the south coast of Australia and runs from Esperance in Western Australia to Port Lincoln in South Australia. It is a remote waterway with very low adjacent population. As part of the southern ocean, it is a very inhospitable place, greatly respected and feared by fishers who work the area for it’s extreme conditions. When she gets a mood on, it is not uncommon to see conditions of 60ft+ wave heights and sustained winds over 50+ knots. It’s pristine water is home to a lucrative and vibrant fishery worth $1,000,000,000 AU per year.
I am looking for first hand accounts from fishers and or families who have lived through a catastrophic spill in their local area to lodge as part of my submission to council.
Please comment or inbox me if your interested in having your say, please tag others who you know lived through the GoM spill. I’m not looking for huge essays, just some simple but virile comments and observations are fine and will be of great use when trying to convince members of local council it is important to put our fishery before the risk that oil drilling poses.
Thanks in advance!
