Cape Wind seals turbine deal – Trying to pass it off as “construction” Using your money to destroy Nantucket Sound.

Just days before an important deadline to qualify for crucial federal tax credits, Cape Wind has signed a deal with Siemens to build the project’s turbines and an electric service platform to convert its power for transmission. The contract formalizes an announcement three years ago that Siemens would build the 3.6-megawatt turbines for the proposed Nantucket Sound wind farm but does little to mollify critics of the project, who argue it’s a desperate attempt to qualify for the tax incentives. First dose of Bull Bleep today: Cape Wind: Construction has begun – (Hey Stu! Manufacturing is not constructing! Until that first mono tube is driven,,,)

Construction has begun on the long-delayed Cape Wind project, according to a high-ranking executive with the company chosen to supply the turbines. But exactly what that means — whether it will qualify the proposed Nantucket Sound wind farm for federal tax credits and whether the project will survive a slew of outstanding legal and financial challenges — is unclear. Markus Tacke, CEO of Siemens Energy’s wind power division, told Bloomberg News that construction on some of the components for the project has begun.  more@southcoasttoday  08:19

Nat Geo Shill’s for Cape Wind. They don’t mention the impact on fisheries. They foolishly believe it’s an aesthetics issue!

By now, 130 turbines were supposed to be turning above the shallow area of Nantucket Sound known as Horseshoe Shoal. But nothing is there to capture the power of December’s winds, except perhaps for the wings of the long-tailed ducks that winter around Cape Cod. On this side of the Atlantic, Cape Wind’s most vocal opponents included the late Massachusetts Senator Edward M. Kennedy and his nephew, environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. From the opposite side of the political spectrum, billionaire businessman and Cape Cod denizen and yachtsman William Koch continues the battle, more@natgeowindshill  18:15

Cape Wind project faces Dec. 31 deadline

BOSTON (AP) — As it seeks investors, a project off the Massachusetts coast that aims to be the nation’s first offshore wind farm must reach fast-approaching benchmarks or risk missing out on hundreds of millions in critical funding. To qualify for a tax credit that would cover a major portion of its capital costs, Cape Wind either must begin construction by Dec. 31 or prove it’s incurred tens of millions of dollars in costs by then. Also, a $200 million investment — the only one of a specific dollar amount Cape Wind has announced — is conditioned on whether developers can fully finance the rest of the project by year’s end. more@bostonglobe 20:35

Barbara Durkin – Offshore Wind Nothing But Hot Air

Letter: Cape Wind not worth the price – The total capacity of land-based wind power coming under contract in 2013 is  nearly twice what was promised by Cape Wind. The price per kWh is less than half  the price from Cape Wind. If Cape Wind had built its offshore wind farm at the  cost projected in 2001, it too could sell renewable energy at a fair price. link 14:55

Ocean Zoning Grab: Cape Wind seeking government help to secure financing – video

Cape Wind has yet to announce it has lined up financing to pay for the  massive project they are proposing to build in Nantucket Sound, a delay that has  critics hopeful the project will never get off the ground. Cape Wind for its part isn’t saying anything, but public records obtained by  FOX Undercover show the would-be wind farm builders are asking the federal  government for help in the way of a loan guarantee  they need to help get loans. more@myfoxboston 14:08

Cape Wind at our backs? We can only hope

Two companies race to be first in offshore wind that will encroach on our fishing areas. The politicians are just giddy about it!

sct logo“Cape Wind and Deepwater Wind are both ‘in the running’ for building America’s first offshore wind farm, we think we will be first and they think they will be first. It is a good-natured ‘competition.’ The reality is we both wish each other well because our success will help them and their success will help us,” Cape Wind spokesman Mark Rodgers said. “We are just in the early stages of launching the U.S. offshore wind industry and at this stage getting ‘steel in the water’ is incredibly important. So no, there is no concern at either company that the other’s moving forward would have any negative effect.” more@southcoasttoday 10:46

President Barack Obama and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick are working together to push Cape Wind forward for political advantage.

stoogefisherman-obamaFor example, a May 3, 2010, FAA PowerPoint presentation to Eastern Service Area Directors includes a slide titled “Political Implications” which states: “The Secretary of the Interior has approved this project. The Administration is under pressure to promote green energy production. It would be very difficult politically to refuse approval of this project.” continued@dailytimes

Mass Fishermen, do you remember when the delegation asked Gov. Patrick to talk to the President? He did! About Cape Wind!!

Nantucket Sound is home to several species of endangered and protected birds and marine mammals and has been designated an Essential Fish Habitat. Cape Wind’s construction and operations would threaten this rich and fragile environment·  Located in an area with more than 200 days of fog per year and quickly changing weather, Cape Wind would create significant navigational hazards for thousands of commercial and,,, For example, a June 24, 2011, email (acquired through APNS FOIA requests) describes a request by the White House to include Cape Wind in an economic briefing for the President on the loan guarantee program: “The WH was very direct about what should be included in the slides so we don’t have much flexibility.” The email specifically stated that the White House wanted: “1 slide on status of Cape Wind (because he [the President] has heard from Gov. Patrick a few times – they are close friends).”

New Bedford – Wind energy blows into town

sct logoSo everyone is excited, yes? Maybe not. We noticed that there were very few people from the fishing industry in the gathering, and none among the speakers. Seafood consultant Jim Kendall, who shows up at all of the meetings of whatever it is, is among those concerned that fishermen will be kept away from wind turbine farms. One is, while fishermen here are being told that they will be allowed to use trawlers, in Denmark only net fishing will be allowed, not trawling. That’s a red flag for Kendall, who said he suspects there will be similar rules here regardless of what’s being said now. continued

This ocean destroyer will not be built. All the greenheads that think this is eco friendly had better rethink as the ripping and gouging that WILL occur to put this big pile of industrial junk in the ocean habitat they claim to care about WILL destroy it. Who is this stooge, and why does he want to destroy the fishing grounds of the East Coast?

Public comments? I just made mine in the title.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is requesting public comment on an environmental assessment (EA) for an area in federal waters off   Massachusetts where commercial wind energy development would take place.

“Responsible development of abundant wind energy in places like offshore   Massachusetts is a key part of the Obama Administration’s all of the above   energy strategy,” says BOEM Director Tommy P. Beaudreau. “At the same time, we must ensure that the potential effects of wind energy development on other resources, such as marine mammals and fishing, are closely analyzed and that appropriate protections are put in place,” he adds.

And allow me to add Tommy, you’re fulla shit! Appropriate protections? Keep that junk out of the water. BH http://www.rechargenews.com/energy/wind/article326664.ece

Eco-Lawsuit Advances against Cape Wind Risk to Right Whale and other Threatened and Endangered Species Litigated

NOTE. Links will be added as they become available.  http://www.milforddailynews.com/news/x493268917/Suit-claims-Cape-Wind-violates-endangered-species-law

Hyannis, Mass.  (October 10, 2012) – Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility  (PEER), the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound and other conservation groups  today filed a brief in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia  detailing Cape Wind’s numerous violations of federal protections for threatened  and endangered species – including the imperiled North Atlantic right whale, one  of the rarest mammals in the world. This suit charges the project violates  three key federal laws – the Endangered Species Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty  Act and the National Environmental Policy Act.

Other plaintiffs include the Cetacean  Society International, Lower Laguna Madre Foundation, Californians for Renewable  Energy, and Three Bays Preservation. This is one of five federal lawsuits facing  Cape Wind, a massive industrial project proposed to cover 25 square miles of  Nantucket Sound with an array of 130 massive turbines – each stretching taller  than the Statue of Liberty.

Today’s brief explains how the mega-project  poses serious risks to the right whale, four species of federally-protected sea  turtles and several species of migratory birds. It also criticizes the lack of oversight  and analysis of the impact of Cape Wind on this critical  habitat.

Meet John Kassel CLF President / Cape Wind Shill / Advocate of Ocean Destruction, and a crappy blogger, too.

What could be said about Cape Wind?! That depends on your own point of view. Some opinions are based on rhetorical ideology.

Others?

Cold hard facts.

If you are the President of Conservation Law Foundation, rhetorical notions are sufficient.

So much so, that Offshore Wind Advocate John Kassel President, CLF, has been on a advocacy campaign of ocean destruction to decimate what he claims to love.

These values are often associated with places: when we think of America, we think of the icons of America. Yellowstone. Zion. And New England’s very own Acadia National Park. As Americans, preserving these natural treasures is among our proudest accomplishments. Our oceans should be no different. Here, in the Gulf of Maine, we have George’s Bank, Stellwagen Bank, and Cashes Ledge – a spectacular undersea mountain range – where you find steep canyons, deep kelp forests, and vibrant, charismatic marine life. Their beauty and majesty are breathtaking.

The places he describes are the very places we harvest our seafood from. Natures infinite food producing ocean bottom.

All Natural. No Preservatives. With care, a never ending, virtually endless supply of fish and shell fish.

11 years. That’s how long we’ve been waiting for the promise of Cape Wind: clean, renewable energy; new, green jobs; reduced air emissions and carbon pollution; energy at a predictable price over the long-term; and energy security. At a time when the evidence of global warming is overwhelming, and the need for jobs critical, unleashing the potential of this home-grown offshore wind project can only be a good thing.

This editorial is not accurate. This project is environmentally irresponsible. How any environmentalist can ignore the damage to the eco system that they crucify fishermen over, is obscene. To ignore the assult of the ocean bottom that will be supported with your short sighted position is revealing. 80% approve? Hogwash. This is an ocean destroying industrial complex.

Lets see if they post it.
