Georgia’s commercial fishing fleet is hoping for a better season this year, and they just might get it

Following a year many regard as one of the worst shrimp harvests in recent times, those in the seafood industry say the 2014 catch is already looking promising. Still, some say, Tuesday might be a bit too early to open state waters — from the beach to 3 miles offshore — to commercial trawls, even though it is a little later than the normal May start date. Effort by Sausalito group to designate great white sharks as endangered falls short

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife Commission voted not to list the Northeast Pacific population of white shark as threatened or endangered. Bolstering the state view was another study by the National Marine Fisheries Service that put the population closer to 3,000.  Read more here 14:25

EPA agrees to pesticide buffers to protect salmon

The settlement agreement between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Northwest Center for Alternatives to Pesticides was published Friday in the Federal Register. Read more here  13:57:10

Crab dumping lawsuit settled out of court

CBC_News_logoA lawsuit involving the Fish, Food and Allied Workers union and a fish plant on Random Island has been settled out of court. Golden Shell Fisheries sued the union after 200 fishermen dumped about 30,000 pounds of unprocessed crab off its wharf in Hickman’s Harbour in April 2013, during a price dispute. Read more here 10:11

Judge allows additional briefs in federal salmon management suit
