Louisiana: New Skimmer Net Regulations Take Effect August 1
Officials with The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced today that beginning August 1, as a result of Act No. 14 of the 2014 regular legislative session, Louisiana commercial shrimp fishermen are allowed to modify the dimensions of their skimmer nets. Read more here 16:39

Slave labor could help local shrimpers and fisherman to raise awareness about local seafood
A report last week shed stunning light on work conditions on fishing boats half way around the world and opened a door for local shrimpers and fisherman to raise awareness about local seafood. For local seafood advocates, like shrimper and shrimp processor Kim Chauvin, the news comes as a breath of fresh air amidst an onslaught of negative press aimed at Gulf of Mexico shrimpers. “It’s disgusting to see that that’s going on and our government continues to give them subsidies. BC Becoming a ‘Poacher’s Paradise’
Budget cuts and enforcement downsizing have left British Columbia open to fish poachers with little risk of getting caught while they launder their unlawful catch in the commercial market, according to the former director of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s conservation and protection branch in the Pacific region. Pacific fishing nations warn more price rises ahead
Pacific nations have warned foreign fishing countries, including the United States, to expect more price hikes to the cost of fishing in their territorial waters. The nations that makeup the have told disgruntled nations that they will raise the daily fishing rate from $US6,000 to $US8,000 per boat from next January. New rules would ban commercial fishing, lobster mini season from Biscayne National Park
“It’s always so easy to take a swipe at fishermen whether they’re commercial or recreational,” said Bill Kelly, executive director of the Florida Keys Commercial Fishermen’s Association. “It’s going to have a severe socio-economic impact.
