Gloucester: Blessing of Fleet asks for good weather, a good catch and a safe return
The annual Blessing of the Fleet held Sunday afternoon saw several dozen vessels blessed by the Rev. James Achadinha of the Catholic Community of Gloucester and Rockport. On Sunday morning, hundreds gathered for the annual open air Mass, held before the outdoor altar at St. Peter’s Square. Following the Mass was the procession of several bands, floats and eight men who carried the statue of St. Peter on their shoulders. Port of Coos Bay: Annual Blessing of the Fleet Memorial Service canceled
The annual Blessing of the Fleet Memorial Service has been canceled this year due to public safety concerns over the novel coronavirus. The Blessing of the Fleet is a service which honors locals in the commercial fishing industry who have died since 1941. According to a release from the Port of Coos Bay, the service has been canceled “due to public gathering restrictions and social distancing recommendations.”,, According to Fiona Bai, with Port of Coos Bay, the decision to cancel the service was difficult for the Fisherman Memorial Committee. “It’s so meaningful to the community, it’s regretful to have to cancel it,” Bai said. 92nd Annual Blessing of the Fleet is this Sunday
This weekend, Seattle’s fishing fleet will be honored in the 92nd annual Blessing of Fleet to mark the start of the 2020 fishing season. For nearly a century, family, friends, and well-wishers have gathered each year to honor the crews headed to sea for the spring and summer fishing seasons. With some boats already en route to Alaskan waters, Sunday marked the 90th annual Blessing of the Fleet at Fishermen’s Terminal. The Port of Bandon, Oregon invite’s you to the annual Blessing of the Fleet at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 25
Loved ones who have been lost at sea and those in the military who gave their lives for the country will be honored. A blessing for those men and women currently serving and veterans who have returned from war or served in any capacity is planned as well. The blessing also will include those who fish the seas and those who make their livings commercial fishing.
