LDWF reminds Louisianians that Inshore Shrimp Season remains closed – To reopen certain inshore and GOM waters
Although the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission will meet August 7 to consider opening dates for the fall inshore shrimp season, the inshore shrimp season still remains closed. This GOP governor wants to halt offshore oil and gas exploration

Pollock Fleet Sees Spike in Squid Bycatch
While salmon is still the main species that pollock fishermen are trying to avoid taking as bycatch this summer, there’s another creature that’s been causing problems in the Bering Sea. US-Pacific fishing treaty negotiations stall – Video
The treaty will soon expire, meaning if the US fails to negotiate with the Pacific Islands before the end of the year it will no longer be able to fish legally for tuna in the Pacific. Study of bigeye tuna in Northwest Atlantic uses new tracking methods
A first-of-its-kind study of bigeye tuna movements in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean led by Molly Lutcavage, director of the Large Pelagics Research Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, found among other things that these fish cover a wide geographical range with pronounced north-south movements from Georges Bank to the Brazilian shelf, and they favor a high-use area off Cape Hatteras southwest of Bermuda for foraging.
