Harvest of Alaska’s Wild Salmon Reaches Estimated 104 Million Fish
As of Aug. 6, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s preliminary salmon harvest added up to 104,772,000 salmon, including 54,005,000 humpies, 40,751,000 reds, 8,025,000 chum, 1,590,000 silver, and 401,000 Chinooks. <Read more here 17:34
Ak jig fleet grows 224% – Updated fleet profiles
This is Fish Radio. I’m – Who fishes where – for what and where they call home. Alaska fishing fleet updates name names. Alaska’s jig fleet, which fishes primarily for P-cod, now numbers 244 boats – a nearly 220 percent increase through 2012. Honoring the Last “Old Salt” of Ocracoke
The last of a generation of Ocracoke Island men who were true “old salts” died recently, but Edgar Maurice Balance will be remembered on this island with love and respect. Known locally as Morris, Ballance was born to Elisha and Emma Gaskins Ballance in 1927. He was one of nine children, born at home in a big white house on Back Road. <Read more here> 12:04
